The Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center is offering vaccinations for tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis for free. Compliments of the Missouri Department of Health and Human Services, adults will be welcomed throughout September at the Linden Street public health center for these shots.

The health center does not require an appointment. Walk-ins will be received Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. during September.

In the summer, most of us are focused on vacations, not vaccinations. But as fall approaches, the weather changes, and that means it's time to think about flu shots as well.

According to the CDC, flu outbreaks, which happen every year, can happen as early as October and last as late as May. In addition to the free tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis shots through September, several public health clinics for flu shots have been scheduled throughout the county beginning Oct. 8. Keep an eye out for the dates and information in the Southeast Missourian.

Vaccines are an important part of individual and public health. Now is a good time to review your vaccines and get caught up.
