Lisa Coleman finds it exciting and humbling to be a teacher.
"I enjoy teaching. This is something I've wanted to do since I was a little girl," said Coleman, who is in her second year of teaching. "It is also very humbling when I think about the awesome job I have of being responsible for the education and welfare of a whole classroom full of children."
Coleman, a third-grade teacher at Cape Christian School, said she enjoys helping students to understand a concept and enjoys a fun experience that also happens to be educational.
For example, Coleman's students often enjoy the game Four Corners because it allows them to demonstrate how well they have learned their multiplication tables.
"They really get a kick out of beating the one child that is perceived to be the fastest at the multiplication facts," she said. "They don't even realize how well they are learning the facts. That's what makes it fun."
Coleman said she got her first experiences with children as a mother rather than a teacher. She and her husband, Scott, have three children: Rebecca, a freshman elementary education major at Southwest Baptist University; Jonathan, a junior at Jackson High School; and Sarah, a seventh-grader at Jackson Middle School.
In her spare time, Coleman enjoys reading and is involved in various activities at her church, Cape Bible School.
