Spend a Sunday at the Bollinger Mill

Dear readers,This week's trip is to the Bollinger Mill State Historic Site in Burfordville.

To get there you follow Missouri Highway 34. When you get to Burfordville, you turn left into town and follow the road. About a mile down the road, you will see the four-story stone and brick structure, located on the Whitewater River.

The mill has been in continuous operation for nearly two centuries.

You can go inside the mill and see the old equipment that was used to grind grain that feed some people, but mostly livestock. During some hours there is an attendant on duty, and you will find an assortment of brochures covering other neat places in the area.

Right next to the mill you will find the Burfordville covered bridge, which is the oldest covered bridge in the state.

The trip can be done easily in one day and is great for a Sunday afternoon, but the mill may not be open.

This is a great place for a picnic, so be sure to take a lunch along.
