POETRY CORNER: SHE'S A MOM

She's on the job from dawn till dusk

she'll fight the world or die for us.

A full time job with overtime

trouble is don't pay a dime.

the love she has is mighty strong

she'll stand for you right or wrong.

she can size you up with just a glance,

or cut you down if you are too big for your pants.

she's a mother hen when you are small,

the one that loves you most of all.

she'll look you over with a glance or two

and have some good advise for you.

are you gaining weight stand up straight,

and be home early from your date.

your skirt's too short, too much rouge,

tell that boy to come in for you.

shine your shoes, comb your hair,

don't hit the door with that ball there.

don't date that girl; she's too fast.

don't drink or gamble or give no sass.

she nurtures you and when you're grown

she's mighty proud that you're her own.

so if your momma's still around,

don't show that gal any frown.

take your arms and hold her tight

and tell her everything's all right.
