POETRY CORNER: CRAZY EDDY

Crazy Eddy

used to storm

the USO poolrooms

mornings, nights, and afternoons

and onetwothree drop

every ball

call

every shot

with never a doubt or hesitation

Crazy Eddy

lusted women

with the same precision

dropping them

with equal ease

having measured first their expectations

back behind his christblue eyes,

and it was

Crazy Eddy

too,

who in the vast inconsequential fury

of an average afternoon

took one step left

on a numbered hill

and fell to the corner pocket

of someone else's game,

leaving Crazy Eddy

with a hole where his eye should have been.
