The announcement of the Marquette Tech District can be, in the words of John Mehner, a "game changer" for Cape Girardeau. Plaudits to the local investment group including the Maurer and Rhodes families for their vision and determination. The rebirth of these historic structures on the Broadway corridor is paramount to the ongoing revitalization of downtown. But just as important are the types of businesses involved. A major hotel creates a unique buzz of activity for downtown. The creation of a technology hub attracts young, bright, and energetic minds that every community covets. And best of all, a project of this magnitude continues the momentum for more investment and growth. Here's hoping that years from now we will look back and say this is one of the projects that took Cape to the next level.
On another note I'd like to acknowledge all the fine work being done by the committees within the chamber. Special kudos to the Young Professionals Committee, chaired by Kyle Lee, which has shown significant growth and is a great way for the young professionals in our community to network. Also, the chamber is proud to announce the formation of the Women's Network. Attendance is expected to be well over 130 at their inaugural luncheon.
Spring is always a wonderful time to be in Cape, and as you can see, there is warmer weather and excitement in the air.
Bob Neff is the chairman of the board of the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce.
