We welcome the more than 200 new residents to our city. I feel this growth is well-planned and orderly for Jackson. This growth may enable the city to develop further to the south in the years to come.

At my suggestion the city council has approved an ordinance that prohibits fireworks in or city parks system.

In recent years with the parks being used to their maximum capacity it has become dangerous for our children during the fireworks legal period. Also, the expansion of the Jaycees' Fourth of July Celebration has made the shooting of fireworks in the park a potentially dangerous situation. This ordinance does not affect the organized display that normally takes place in the park. We hope this ordinance makes it safer for everyone in our parks during the Fourth of July fireworks season.

The council has also passed your 1994 tax rate. It will remain the same as in 1993. We are working to hold the line on taxes. It is my general belief that we pay enough taxes and that better money management is a better answer than new taxes.

A new zoning ordinance is now in effect and many compromises were made to come up with a good workable final ordinance. I appreciate all the input from the public on this ordinance. With public input and the work of the planning and zoning board the council was able to pass a zoning ordinance that will serve Jackson well for years to come.

Homecomers was bigger and better than ever this year. Many thanks to the Jackson American Legion post for continuing to sponsor this fine tradition.

As most of you know by now, Carl Talley is stepping down as city administrator Oct. 31. Carl will continue to work as a consultant and on special projects for at least two years. Carl has been a faithful leader of our town for many years. The search for a new administrator is underway at this time. We hope to have someone hired by Oct. 31.

The city council meets every Monday night at 7:30 p.m. I encourage your input and welcome your attendance at our meetings.
