Tomorrow night is the big night for the music industry. It's Grammy Awards night. You can find your all-access pass online.
Peggy: Wednesday night is the 41st Grammy Awards, but events start earlier online. Between the artists rehearsing on stage and those conducting live chats behind the scenes, the site has been busy since the weekend.
Joni: Today they have live chats with a number of stars ranging from Lee Ann Womack to The Temptations. On Wednesday throughout the day, celebs are scheduled non-stop -- leading up to the ceremony.
Peggy: You get a 30-minute live interview and then 30 minutes of chat. Not bad. You can also participate in Grammy polls and take a peek with the Grammy cam. I love cams.
Joni: This is one night I feel a little old and out of touch with the music. I don't recognize a lot of the names.
Peggy: We looked at the cam and didn't recognize either person. One was the celeb and the other was the interviewer. We couldn't tell who was who. Sad, huh?
Joni: It's true. My 7-year-old is more in touch with the music than I am. Here's a flashback to previous Grammys, back to 1958.
Peggy: Perhaps we could find some celebrities in that list that we recognize. They also have a Grammy guide, an applet program for up-to-the-minute news and updates from, the site.
Joni: Oh no, here's a game -- Grammy Star Spotter. How many stars can you spot from past Grammys? OK, ready?
Peggy: Oh thank goodness, it's a multiple-choice quiz. At least we have a chance. Here are some of the choices, Barry Manilow and Andy Gibb. Maybe we have a real chance. You must have the G2 RealPlayer in to play the game.
Joni: Well, we didn't get them all correct. You can play over and over and over until you do, but we have work to do. Instead, let's see who is nominated for Album of the Year.
Peggy: The nominees are Sheryl Crow, originally from Kennett; Garbage, Lauryn Hill, Madonna and Shania Twain. And who is nominated for the Record of the Year?
Joni: Brandy & Monica for "The Boy is Mine," Celine Dion for "My Heart Will Go On," the Goo Goo Dolls for "Iris," Madonna for "Ray of Light," and Shania Twain for "You're Still the One."
Peggy: By the way, if you're one of those people who like to keep track during awards ceremonies, you can print a nominee list from this site.
Joni: Want to learn more about Shania Twain? You can visit her official Web site at
Peggy: This official site from Polygram records, has information like when Shania will appear next on television. She'll be on the "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno tonight.
Joni: And of course, she's performing at the Grammys. You can read a biography. For example, this is her third album, and she was born in Canada.
Peggy: Here's an explanation about her name. Her real name Eileen, and she took up the Ojibway Indian name of Shania, which means "I'm on my way."
Joni: You can also look at more photos of Shania on the road, video photos and publicity shots. She doesn't look like your typical country star. I wish they would let you listen to their songs on these sites, at least a little bit of music.
Peggy: I guess they figure anyone who is visiting Shania's fan page knows very well what her music is like.
Joni: Let's take a look at the Goo Goo Dolls' site. They will be performing in Cape Girardeau April 9. You can find them on the Internet at
Peggy: Here we go. They have audio clips on this site. You can either click for an audio sample, a video sample or a quick-time video.
Joni: You can also read all the lyrics for the songs. Here's their nominated song, "Iris" from the "City of Angels" movie. You can look at pictures and read more about the three Goos.
Peggy: I wonder if it explains how they got their name. Nope. We did learn they've been around since 1987. Next let's visit Madonna online. She's not the material girl any more. Has motherhood changed her?
Joni: She offers the "Ray of Hope" album. But there's not a lot at this official site. Maybe the Madonna Fan Club site is better.
Peggy: Here it says Madonna is scheduled to perform live at the Grammys, and the site is taking forever to load. Let's take a look at Celine Dion's Web site.
Joni: This is her official Web site, but all these stars have hundreds of sites, many put together by adoring fans. There's lots to learn.
Peggy: Hmm. Here it says she was the youngest of 14 children and began singing at age 5.
Joni: She also has lots of audio clips, including some early clips. They also list her Top 10 song picks from the site, including "My Heart Will Go On" from the movie "Titanic."
Peggy: You can also rate the song from 1 to 10 and write them what the songs mean to you.
Joni: They include the lyrics. I like that. You can read her lyrics in French or English. She will be in Memphis April 6 and in St. Louis April 14.
Peggy: Now, let's look for Missouri native Sheryl Crow. She's bound to be online.
Joni: OK. Her site is a little umm...non-traditional. For example, her bio is told through song lyrics, at least I think these are song lyrics.
Peggy: You can visit a virtual concert. Here she is playing the accordion.
Joni: The accordion? Yes, indeed. She's playing the accordion on the Conan O'Brien show. Hey, my mom used to play the accordion. I have it in my house. Sorry, I don't play.
Peggy: If you still need a little more music in your life, try the Ultimate Band List at
Joni: It lists bands A to Z, and you can find out concert information, music news, online radio stations, musician sites and lots of links to listen to the songs.
Peggy: Plus it links you to a lot of different artists' sites. They do try to sell you music, but it's worth a look.
Joni: What is your favorite music site? E-mail us at click@semissourian.com
See you in Cyberspace.
