Set your clocks back

We return to Daylight Saving Time Sunday. Just when we liked getting up in the daylight, we return to dark mornings. It reminds me of those years we drove to Poplar Bluff in the wee hours to catch my 6 a.m. train to Arkadelphia, Arkansas to attend college.

After enjoying a glorious full moon last week, sky watchers can enjoy the planets Venus and Mercury low in the western evening sky. There will be a second full moon March 31. There was no full moon in the month of February. Two blue moons in one calendar year will not happen again until 2037.

Painting dedicated

The striking 10' by 5' painting that was a project of The Painted Wren Gallery is now in place at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape. Gallery owner Aaron Horrell and co-manager Barb Bailey tell us that The Paint for a Cause during the District Fair raised $3,000 which was donated to residents at the Veterans Home. Precisely 1,128 people stopped by to paint setting a record for Cape and possibly the state of Missouri. Currently, The Paint for a Cause benefits theMuseum of Natural History in Marble Hill. A journal about the history of The Paint for a Cause is in the works. It will feature the various causes and how each came to be and also the names of people who painted for a cause. The journal will have about 100 pictures; you can order yours now by dropping by The Painted Wren Gallery Tuesday thru Saturday on South Plaza Way in Cape.

Alumni banquet coming up

Tom Davenport reminds us to note the 2018 CHS Alumni Banquet September 29 at the VFW Hall on our calendars. Registration forms will be sent out via email in June and those who still depend on the postal delivery will get theirs in July or so. Please inform the CHS Alumni Association at chaffeealumni@yahoo.com of your email address so you can receive their timely newsletters and they can save postage.

If you are interested in looking at past years' Moguls, you can access the archives at cityofchaffee.com/moguls. It is a fun way to walk down memory lane and see how special the Moguls were and all the work that went into them.

Basketball wins

Congratulations to our girls' and boys' basketball teams for their great season. The boys were conference champs for the first time since 1962. Ten year Coach Josh Govreau became the winningest coach in CHS history with 107 wins, breaking Coach Bob Goodwin's (1953-1959) record of 101. CHS Athletes were honored at the Winter Athletic Banquet last week.

April 3 is Election Day. We urge you to vote 'yes' for the Local Use Tax. This tax is already being collected but Chaffee is not receiving it because the city does not have a use tax ordinance which is required by the state. By voting 'yes', the collected revenues will go to the City of Chaffee to support our community and local businesses. Please vote 'yes'. Go to yes.chaffeechamber.com for further explanation.

Citywide cleanup

The Citywide Cleanup is scheduled for April 10 and 12 depending on your bulk trash day. It is a great opportunity to get rid of all the junk in your garage, your house and in your yard. Let's clean up our homes and yards and make Chaffee great again! A good start would be to throw soda cups in trash cans and not on people's lawns or in culverts.

In memoriam

The city lost a special person recently with the sudden passing of Teresa Cureton of Marble Hill. She had served as full-time dispatcher for the City of Chaffee Police Department since 2009. Our condolences go out to her family and friends.

Remember to tell those special people in your life that you love them -- those three words mean so much.

Email your news to darbuck2@airmail.net or call (573) 887-6430 or (214) 207-7839.

Then there was the hairstylist's license plate 'curl md'.
