To everything there is a season. Ecclesiastics 3:1-8 To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.. ...

It was the Byrds who borrowed the Bible scriptures for their song's lyrics. It starts out, "to everything ... turn, turn, turn, there is a season ... turn, turn, turn." It was the 1960s and everything was groovy. The attitude of the 1960s seems long gone. But why? Have we become too plugged into our computers, TVs and recreational vehicles? Some of us might admit to escaping into our own little bubble and living there where nothing bad can ever permeate.

It is the season to break out of that bubble and take a stand. There are things going on that you always wanted to get around to changing or becoming involved in.

Mothers against drunk driving was an idea born out of the 1960s. Real legislation didn't happen until the 1970s. It was never legal to drive a vehicle while intoxicated, yet the actual enforcement took a lot of work to become implemented. It was a milestone for mothers, and others, whose children and loved ones were being killed by drunk drivers.

Maybe you're frustrated and can't seem to find the time to make a social change. Perhaps you're too busy earning a living to provide for your family. Taking the steps at home is a beginning. Teach your children well. Shut the TV off, hide the gameboy, shut the computer down. Instill some values. It takes more work, but time is running out. Are you up for a challenge?
