BUSINESS PERSONNEL: FIRSTAR PROMOTION

Thomas M. Metzger has been named president of Firstar Corporation's middle market banking division in the St. Louis market.

Metzger, a St. Louis native, previously served as executive vice president and chief credit officer for Mercantile Bancorporation. He has 25 years of banking experience, 15 of them with Mercantile.

Metzger's new position was announced by Jerry A. Grundhofer, president and chief executive officer of First, parent company of all Mercantile and Firstar banks.
