Russell Borders, animal control officer for the city of Charleston during the past two years, has completed 12 hours of training in chemical immobilization, during a training session held recently at Columbia.
Among topics at the two-day workshop were animal behavior, tranquilizing of violent or injured animals, emergencies and calculating drug doses.
Chemical immobilization of animals is used only as a last resort. Use of the chemical must be justified.
