Chrysler Corp., selling some of its cars and trucks faster than it can produce them, reported the third most profitable quarter in its history.
Chrysler said last week it earned $1.04 billion, or $2.77 a share, in the second quarter, a sevenfold increase from the $135 million, or 35 cents a share, it earned a year ago, when the company booked expenses to revamp assembly plants. Sales increased 27 percent to $15.8 billion.
