During an exercise, the local radio group contacted more than 375 amateur radio stations, including those in Alaska, Canada and Puerto Rico, in a test to check the readiness of amateur radio emergency communications.

The group has been effective in establishing communications during emergencies -- floods, fires and hurricanes.
