- 2008 Corporate Games: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will host the 2008 Corporate Games from Sept. 14 to 26. The Games will consist of diverse team events to encourage participation from individuals of all interests and abilities. Cost: $350 for Division 1 (100 employees or more); $300 for Division 2 (26 to 99 employees); $250 for Division 3 (25 or fewer employees). Entry forms can be picked up at the A.C. Softball
- Cary Flanagan tournament: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Development Foundation will host the fourth annual Cary Flanagan Memorial softball tournament Aug. 23 at the Shawnee Park Sports Complex. There will be a men's upper and lower division and a coed upper and lower division. Entry fee: $140 per team. - Alumni tournament: The Scott City Park Board will host its annual alumni softball tournament meeting Aug. 21 at City Hall. The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m., and rules will be discussed. The meeting is open to all players. Info: Phyllis, 264-2322 or Scott Holder, 979-1735.
- League registration open: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is accepting teams for the 2008 men's and co-ed fall softball league. The league tentatively is set to start Sept. 8, and games will be played Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at the Shawnee Park Sports Complex. There will be an upper division doubleheader men's league on Friday nights. Teams will be able to use ASA and NSA approved bats on Friday nights only. Deadline: Aug. 29. Triathlon
- Trail of Tears Triathlon: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor the 19th annual Trail of Tears Triathlon on Sept. 13 at Trail of Tears State Park. The race will consist of a half-mile swim, 15-mile bike ride and 4-mile run. Cost: $35 for individuals, $40 for team if registered by Sept. 1; $45 for individuals, $50 for team after Sept. 1. Day of registration will be an additional $5. All non-UTSA members will be required to purchase a one-day membership for $10. - Youth triathlon: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor the 20th annual youth triathlon and kids races at the Central Municipal Pool on Saturday. Pre-registration ends Friday at 5 p.m. Registration on the day of the event runs from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. The kids half-mile run starts at 8:30 a.m. and is for ages 3 to 5 years old. The 1-mile run will begin at approximately 8:45 a.m. and is for ages 6 to 8 years old. The triathlon will begin at approximately 9 a.m. and is open to competitors ages 8 to 18. The course consists of a 300-yard swim, 4-mile bike course and 1-mile run. Cost: If pre-registered: $15 for individual in youth triathlon, $30 for a team, $8 for kids half-mile run. Volleyball
- Co-ed league: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is accepting teams for its co-ed volleyball league, which will start the first week of October. Games will be played Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Osage Community Centre. There will be a managers meeting Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Osage Community Centre. Deadline: Sept. 19.
