Cape Girardeau will be a busy place this weekend as the Missouri Baptist Convention convenes here. Events include the Missouri Women's Missionary Union annual meeting and the Southern Baptist Convention Foreign Mission Board's appointee meeting, attracting as many as 5,000 Baptists to town.

It is noteworthy that the new state president of the Missouri Women's Missionary Union is Mary Popp of Jackson.

The meeting is also history-making in that it marks the first time the Foreign Mission Board's commissioning service will culminate the Women's Missionary Union convention. Typically the commissioning service is held in a metropolitan area at a different time than the women's convention.

Cape Girardeau was a big success during the Missouri Baptist Convention in 1992, with the third highest attendance ever. That good showing attributed to Cape Girardeau's booking of these two other events.

It is time to roll out the red carpet again and welcome these visitors with a healthy show of Cape Girardeau hospitality.
