To the editor:
President Bush, Secretary of State Powell and Secretary of Education Page proclaimed the week of Nov. 15-22 as the second annual International Education Week, inviting postsecondary schools as well as secondary and elementary schools to explore their experiences with another culture. Southeast Missouri State University planned an exciting week for students, faculty and staff as well as members of the community. Beginning with an international festival, there were opportunities for interaction, discussion, presentations on critical issues, laughter and understanding of other cultures.
Those students, faculty and staff deeply appreciate the support the Southeast Missourian provided for the week's events. Mark Bliss, Sam Blackwell, Don Frazier, Mark Miller and others provided coverage that encouraged our community to share in the events. Their own participation heightened the excitement and learning for us all.
During this season of Thanksgiving, we are thankful for the Missourian and its reporting of events that raise our awareness of other cultures, highlighting our similarities and our uniquenesses.
