Many in the area have been busy lately with Christmas festivities. Churches are holding special services, cantatas, bazaars and live Nativities. School and civic groups have also been busy. Each event represents countless hours of time invested by volunteers.

What a joy it is to celebrate our savior's birth and spend time with family and friends during the Christmas season.

Here are a few events to consider this weekend:

* Tonight there will be a Flashlight Candy Cane Hunt at the Osage Centre. This kid-friendly event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Dress appropriately and bring a flashlight. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served afterward. Cost is $5. To register, call 339-6340. Note: Parents must stay with their children for this event.

* The Cape River Heritage Museum will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. This is your last opportunity to visit the museum this year. A 3 p.m. ceremony will recognize Jerry Ford and Canedy Sign & Graphics.

* The Glenn House in Cape Girardeau will hold candlelight tours from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The house is festively decorated and volunteers will be dressed in period clothing. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children. Tours also will be given from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
