Indian Park remains one of the most well-used parks in the city. This high use combined with heavy traffic still concerns us.
One child has already lost her life in a traffic accident at the park, and we want to insure more accidents aren't waiting to happen.
Would additional stop signs at William and Lorimier help to slow traffic? Currently, traffic only stops at Lorimier.
If Indian Park is truly a neighborhood park -- perhaps street parking should be eliminated on Lorimier or William, thus lessening visual obstables.
How will the additional traffic of riverboat gambling affect Indian Park? A downtown traffic study presented Wednesday to the P&Z calls for William to be widened east of Sprigg. Other recommendations would create three lanes on William between Main and Lorimier, and redirect more traffic onto Lorimier.
We urge the city council and police to consider ways to increase traffic safety at Indian Park -- keeping in mind that growing riverboat traffic may only accentuate current traffic problems at this popular site.
