To the Editor:
The recent march of homosexuals, lesbians and bisexuals on Washington was slated by promoters as an historic event ushering in a new era. Those who have been fighting for homosexual rights feel that they finally have a man (and a woman) in the White House who will hear them out and promote their agenda. Such a pity that he wasn't in Washington on the big day to show his friends and voters his adamant support. (The rally has only been in the planning for two years.) The homosexual community is finding out how their main man can waffle with them also.
Once again the media have proven their undaunted promotion of the cause. ABC News, as well as AP reports, compared the march of 300,000 to other processions of bygone eras: the civil rights march, the anti-Vietnam War protest and the pro-abortion rally. To my knowledge, not one word was mentioned of the Christian marches of the '80s, the second of which 600,000-plus were estimated to have attended. At that time, the Washington press felt it below its dignity to report on it and the national media gave it "incidental" coverage.
I was saddened to see on TV some of the placards held by protesters along the parade route. One of them stated "God hates fags!" and was accompanied by a Bible verse. This is not quite staying within the confines of Christian love and will do little to convince the homosexuals of God's love and forgiveness towards them if they humble themselves before Him.
God doesn't fight fire with fire. The Bible tells us that "the weapons we fight with aren't the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish" strongholds of wickedness (2 Cor. 10:45). Notice the "on the contrary." God's divine weapons are greater and much more productive. (You think smart bombs are accurate?!)
Some people have wondered why God didn't annihilate those gathered at the nation's capital with one fell swoop. It's because His primary concern is for their salvation, not their destruction. That's something hard for some Christians to swallow. Just as He's had mercy on me and others who'd spurned His will. He desires for all to be regenerated and come to know Him.
Relying on human weapons and warfare to change society comes from non-Biblical thinking. God says that the problems in the world aren't due to His vehement opponents but rather due to the church's not following His orders. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
If we really want to see our nation turn from the road to destruction it's so rapidly traveling on, we, the Christians of this nation, must fulfill four conditions: 1. humble ourselves, 2. pray, 3. seek God's face and 4. turn from our wicked anti-Biblical practices. God promises that then, and only then, will He heal and restore America. We must first get our act together before God can deal with wickedness outside the church.
Sincerely,
