Dear Editor:
The Exchange Clubs of Cape Girardeau express thanks to the citizens of the area that helped make the "Quarters for Kids" program a success. These quarters were collected at several places here as our National Exchange attempted to set a new record for the longest, most valuable line of coins in the world.
This feat was accomplished and will be appearing in the next edition of the Guinness Book of World Records. The quarters weighed 2,350 pounds, amount to $431,000, and formed a line of 25.9 miles long.
Fifty percent of this money will be used for the "Prevention of Child Abuse," which is a national program for the Exchange Clubs of America. The balance of the money was returned to the local clubs to be used in our communities - donations were made to the Veterans Memorial, to the CASA Program - this is Court Appointed Special Advocate program - also to various other local programs. Again the Exchange Club of Cape and Breakfast Exchange Club wish to thank K103 radio was well as the citizens of the area who helped us accomplish our mission.
