Every season brings changes. Winter brings the crisp white flakes that make for gorgeous family Christmas cards. Spring finds us admiring flowers as they pop up and dress our lawns. Summer warms us as we bask poolside in the sun's rays. And fall foliage leaves us gazing at the manifold colors that make us marvel at creation. Recently, we have welcomed back this fall season as we look for ways to enjoy all it has to offer before we bid it adieu and brace ourselves for the bitter cold.
Southeast Missouri has a plethora of activities and trails to indulge in during this particular time of year. We encourage you and your family to get out and enjoy, if you've not already.
Cape Rock Park is one place to visit. With more than 21 acres and a view of the Mississippi River, you can take either a relaxing stroll or a more feverish hike among the colorful leaves on the park's numerous trees.
For those looking for an educational and recreational experience, consider a visit to the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center. Wildlife, hiking, exhibits and more make this a place for sheer enjoyment or a school field trip. The auditorium, classroom and laboratory are conducive to lessons for students. But it also grants peace and quiet for the individual or couple interested in hiking the two-mile trail.
Many places in the area call to us to explore them, and those who appreciate the cooling air and the changing environment answer. To name a few: Cape LaCroix Recreation Trail, Klaus Park Trail, Maple Hollow Trail, White Oak Trace and Riverfront Trail. We, of course, would be remiss if we failed to also mention the Trail of Tears State Park. It is beauty, history and majesty rolled in one -- and there's no better time than autumn to see it all.
Be sure to keep an eye out on semoevents.com. There, you'll find all sorts of fall activities, such as pumpkin decorating contests, haunted houses, winery events and more.
We are fortunate to live in an area of the country that holds breathtaking beauty. Make plans to enjoy this season.
