A Memorial Day service presented by the Scott City VFW has always been held at Lightner's Cemetery. During the week of May 20, it was brought to my attention that Scott City's VFW had quietly decided to not hold this service.

Late on Friday evening, I shared this upsetting information with David Hardesty of Cape Girardeau. Because of his perseverance, a beautiful 11 a.m. Memorial Day program was presented, shared and enjoyed by members of the community.

Scott City residents sincerely thank David for his time and knowledge to make this necessary program a reality. Cape Girardeau, you are so blessed to have David Hardesty as a resident.
