To the editor: Thank you so much for the article, "A river running through families," published in November. Only another towboater's wife would even come close to understanding what we go through month after month. My husband, Charles, has been gone more than he's been home this year. I hope his days will start being more regular. Our 15-year anniversary is coming up next month, and he will be on the boat. At least he will be home for Christmas...

We have a 4-year-old boy, Cody, and a 19-month-old girl, Cayla. They miss their daddy. I've got my hands full with them. I quit my job as a nurse to stay home with Cody. Now I've got two to take care of, and I have never worked a job that even compares to how busy I am now.

Thanks again for the article. I'm going to cut it out and let my sisters and friends read it. People around here do not know anything about river life. We are 10 miles from the Tennessee River, and they still have no idea. That's life.
