AFTER READING ABOUT the planned Christmas decorating project, I'm hoping that Cape residents will participate. Let's make Cape shine. Show our Bootheel sister city we can do it too. The tours sound like fun for all. Light Cape up. THE NEWS OF the past week has suddenly made me aware of how under-represented we women are in the U.S. Senate: 98 men and two women. I'VE JUST LOOKED at the Southeast Missourian Thursday and I can't believe the fine print on Proposition B. That's the reason I'm voting against it. It's unreadable and unfathomable.

ONCE AGAIN DAN Rather, in his negligent reporting, has fooled the public. The lead-in into the CBS evening news showed him discussing a ban on semi-automatic weapons, and guess what was being fired? A fully automatic weapon. I'm so glad that Congress doesn't listen to him. Congress actually approved the crime bill, which eliminated a ban on 13 types of semi-automatic weapons. It makes me feel a little bit better that Congress is trying to regain faith from the public amidst all the screwups. Now if we can just get the press set straight, I think we might be on the right track.

ON THE SOCIAL Security program, they say the average check is $600 a month. I wonder if anyone knows how some small some people's checks are.
