I WANTED TO call and let the Cape Municipal Band know that I really enjoyed their concerts this summer. They have had excellent concerts, and this past Wednesday John Mills did an outstanding job as a soloist. I look forward to coming to the concerts next summer. Thanks for the concerts this past summer.

I'M CALLING IN about the article on the front page of Thursday's paper where it's talking about Judge Patrick Kelly in Kansas City. I thought it would be a sad day for America when we can see the people in the Soviet Union can protest, they can bring their leader back. We protest against what's wrong, killing people, and we get put in jail. I see here were three were jailed indefinitely, fined $10,000 a piece, and he's ordering they pay this within 10 days. I can't believe we're seeing this done in America. I wonder where our president is, the one that sent our boys over to Saudi Arabia to take care of the women and children over there because they were being abused and mistreated? I wonder if he's still on vacation and doesn't know what's happening in Wichita. I think it's time this judge is impeached and imprisoned. He sure has a pay day coming. Thank you.

THE MAN WHO spoke of the lawbreaking criminals in Wichita needs to rethink his position. Suppose you saw someone killing a baby in a building. Suppose the baby was your daughter. Would you not give your life to save that baby? If someone had tried to kill your daughter in her mother's body, would you not give your life to save her? If your wife had not had the love, common sense, and compassion, to give birth to this daughter, you would not have her now. The idiots are doing nothing more than trying to save the lives of pre-born babies. I would suggest your generous donation go to more humane causes than the abortionists who are already making a killing killing babies.

IT WOULD BE very interesting to know what kind of cars and shoes the people drive and wear who are being laid off at the shoe factory. If they drive foreign cars and wear foreign shoes they can't always eat them if they get hungry. Thank you.

What I think you should do is stop worrying about whether or not your son likes you because you as a parent aren't his buddy. You must do your job as a parent and lay down the law and stop letting him get away with all this crap. Thank you.

TO THE LADY who is tired of her 31-year-old son living with her and dominating and controlling her life, at least you realize there is a problem; that no child, young or old, should dominate or control their parent. You may need help and you've already taken the first step by asking. None of us can really tell you which way is right. Seek advice through counseling, through your church, possibly. You need to talk to someone and you need to quit enabling your son to use you and control you. Thank you.

OUR PRESIDENT HAS made the remark that everything is getting better; employment is getting better. I wonder how he explains the closing of all the Brown Shoe Co. factories at Charleston, Caruthersville. If you can tell me that that's better, then I've got a wrong opinion of what's good and what's bad. Thank you.

THE LAW IN Wichita, Kan., doesn't seem to know what to do about those people who are trying to block the doors of the abortion clinic. I would suggest as a resolution to the problem that they import police from Los Angeles who worked Rodney King over. Have them go to Wichita and work those people over who don't obey the law. They'd solve that problem in a big hurry. Thank you.

IF EVERYONE WOULD be less fat we would have fewer heart problems, gallbladder, and many other related health problems. There are so many fat-free foods today. Why wait until you're 100 pounds overweight and having health problems before you change your food habits. Walking more and cutting out smoking are important, too. This would cut all of our insurance rates and it would help in many ways. Thank you.

I APPLAUD DENNIS Ziegenhorn's efforts to keep Sikeston in one district. In an article from the Missourian dated Aug. 19, Rep. Ziegenhorn expressed his concern for having to take care of people who didn't live in his district due to messed up district boundaries. Ziegenhorn has stayed up late doing his homework, homework that took care of the people he represents. Amick on the other hand has not lost sleep over the redistricting controversy just as he stated in a previous Missourian article. Scott City and Oran owe him nothing for his efforts as their representative.

CAN YOU BELIEVE it? Now they're blaming the closing of the shoe factory on the people for buying foreign shoes. Well, blame the Congress and senators for letting these foreign products in our country. They need to do their job and take care of our country instead of the foreign countries. They give all the money to the foreign countries instead of paying the American workers a decent wage so we could afford to buy American products. People making minimum wage of $4.25 an hour cannot afford expensive shoes. All people can't vote themselves a $23,000 raise like they did. All they do is make it harder on the people and don't even give us a choice whether or not to use seat belts. We're not a free country anymore. It won't be long and we'll be like the communist countries. If the shoe company is anything like the clothing factory I work in, they bring the foreigners in our factory and show them how we do it. Then they go back to their countries and do it cheaper. How dumb can we be?

TO THE PEOPLE who are wondering why the citizens are arming themselves to the teeth, I just got finished watching some film footage on CNN Headline News where a woman was beaten by a police officer in Jackson, Miss., for a misdemeanor of trespassing. I really wonder why the cops even question people like me and my wife and everyone else arming themselves. I think it's rather obvious we have to protect ourselves. If the cops can't do it the people have to do it.

I WOULD LIKE to comment about the collapse of the hard-liners in the Soviet Union, East Germany, and Poland. Now that they've collapsed, I wonder when the hard-line communists here in the United States will collapse such as at Berkeley, Harvard, and CBS with Dan Rather. I wonder how long they will be able to hold out. Thank you.

I HAVE HEARD this old cry of buy products made in the USA for the last 40 years. People would have bought shoes, coats, and clothes if they could have afforded them. That works both ways. A person working on minimum wage, which was very low, could not afford Florshiem shoes and Fifth Avenue coats and things. I know: I would have gone barefoot the year 'round if it hadn't been for Japan and Hong Kong. When I heard Bob Hope and Barbara Mandrell and others say they buy USA products, well, I'm sure they can.

IT WOULD CERTAINLY be nice if we could get some of the Russian aid diverted to Southeast Missouri. After all, we need some help too.

THIS IS IN regard to the Shawnee National Forest and the East Perry Lumber Co., and the cutting down of all the trees in that area. They are hurting our environment by doing that. They tell us to plant trees, to help the pollution and all these other things. They are ruining the homes of many wildlife, birds and so on. The garden clubs do stand for conservation and trees and birds and all the wildlife. Cannot the garden clubs of all the surrounding areas help to put a stop to this tragedy? Thank you, Speak Out.

WE AMERICANS ALONG with the help of the unions are self-destructing and putting ourselves out of business. Why do we buy imports? Because we can't afford American made. We had better wake up and smell the coffee before it's too late.

OVER A PERIOD of time I've noticed Speak Out will occasionally run a complaint about someone telling all the rest of the drivers about the center lane on the highways being for passing only. I believe somebody is a little bit mixed up on that. The center lane for passing is only for highways out of the city limits. The center lane for passing only does not apply in any town or city. In between Cape and Jackson you have a whole lot of city as it falls into this category. Thank you.

I HAVE NOTICED that Speak Outers who have quit smoking express relief at being free from the horrible addiction. This should encourage other smokers to quit smoking and discourage people from starting to smoke.
