SPEAKOUT
THIS IS for Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. If he thinks he's so smart and can do all this, why doesn't he get them first to go get a job and quit doing drugs and quit doing all this other junk and make it a better world? WHEN I saw how many black people went to Washington, D.C., it really made me sick why those black people couldn't stay home and work and make a living for their family like everybody else. ...
First things first
THIS IS for Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. If he thinks he's so smart and can do all this, why doesn't he get them first to go get a job and quit doing drugs and quit doing all this other junk and make it a better world?
Get to work
WHEN I saw how many black people went to Washington, D.C., it really made me sick why those black people couldn't stay home and work and make a living for their family like everybody else. That's why welfare is so big and food stamps are so strong. They need to stay home and take care of their families and quit trying to get on TV.
Bridge dates from 1928
I JUST received my new telephone book yesterday and I checked to see if they had corrected the error about the bridge in the article under history of Cape Girardeau. They've had it for several years that the bridge was dedicated in 1978 when it was dedicated in September of 1928. People who are new to this area were probably wondering why they want a new bridge that is only 17 years old.

LET'S ALL vote for President Clinton and keep Medicare.
Know the background
THIS IS in response to the comment about the well-fed lady who was buying a lot of food with food stamps. Maybe this had just lost her job. She's temporarily needing the food stamps and she hasn't had time to lose weight or lose her fine automobile or whatever in order to buy food. Maybe she is buying the food for somebody else who is unable to go to the grocery store for themselves. I had a good job before I retired. I drove a good car, lived in a good house but I was designated as one to purchase food for someone who could not go to the store. I went to the store, bought the food with their food stamps and took it to them because they were unable to go to the store. In any case, don't look down on the person who drives a good car and buying food with food stamps.
Councilmen applauded
COUNCILMEN GATELEY and Eggimann, hang in there. You are our kind of people. You are trying to do what the people of Cape want you to do. If the New Madrid intersection goes ahead, it just goes show that everything the city has done has been for the Show Me Center from way back. The gravel streets and things like that need to be done first. Thank you both.

Youth football
CONGRATULATIONS TO the Cape Youth League Vikings. They beat the previously undefeated Rams in the big game Saturday in the youth league. They'll be playing at Arena Park this week. Everybody needs to turn out and watch. This is good football.
Black racism
MY COMMENT is about the black unity march. I have never seen so much racism as in the black race itself. I think that needs to be done away with.
Pink ribbons
JUST A reminder, October if Breast Cancer Awareness month. Pink ribbons are being worn to signify an awareness of breast cancer and the fight against breast cancer. Breast self exams and mammograms are responsible for early detection and cures. The threat of breast cancer is present for all women of all ages and races. On the upside, statistics for survival are improving. With continuing research, hopefully and prayerfully, the certainty of a cure can't be far away. So wear a pink ribbon and be aware of the reality of breast cancer.
Two good councilmen
THE CAPE Girardeau City Council has only two good city councilmen, Melvin Gateley and Mr. Eggimann. The rest I cannot say too much for. I hope they turn to the good.
Christian judgments
THIS IS just to clear up an issue that was in Speak Out. The caller was defending Disney. Somebody can be a Christian and still make a judgment over something whether it be right or whether it be wrong. If this man knows anything about Christianity, then he needs to open his Bible and read the story about Sodom and Gomorah, and that should settle it for him. As far as Christians being judgmental: We didn't judge that homosexuality or any of these other things were wrong. God judged them. If it says it in his word, then that's what we're supposed to accept. We didn't make the judgment. Don't argue with us. Argue with him.
Cute calves
THIS IS to the man on Mount Auburn Road who has the small calves in the pasture field. We pass by there every day on our way to school and my kids enjoy seeing those immensely particularly my little girl who looks forward to it everyday. Thank you for bringing a spot of happiness to our everyday world.
