I WAS pleasantly surprised that the Cape Girardeau City Council did not cave into the lifestyles of the rich and famous in the Sylvan Lane area. Rather they did the decent thing and approved the plat for the subdivision. Whether these are rental properties or sales homes, I don't see how they can hurt the Cape Girardeau school system, and low-income families in this town need some housing options.
THIS WELFARE for unwed mothers has nothing to do with illegitimate children. It has everything to do with the fact that some women will do anything for a guy. Even to the point of having more and more illegitimate children because our government will pay for every child that unwed mother has.
MY ANIMALS -- three dogs, a cat and a bird -- have no consideration for my rights. The dogs prevent my friends and any caller from coming near my home, which is their territory, of course. I mop up after the dogs all day long, every day. I endure cat-box odor. I tolerate my parrot's biting me. I clean up after them, feed them and look out for them, let them in and out of the house every day. Before I can make a move, I have to consider all the animals, but I have not seen once any consideration for my rights by them. My animals have put me through pure heck, so to heck with animal rights.
I WATCHED the city council meeting, and I just want to say what a bunch of elitist people live in Sylvan Acres. If they don't want that development built there, they should have bought that land. When you buy a house that's near undeveloped property, the chance you take is that it will be developed into something you don't like. The good solution to their problem is band together, raid their bank accounts and make the owner of the property an offer he can't refuse.
MY SON was jogging Broadway the afternoon of Sept. 18. He was struck by a car pulling out of the station next to Houck Stadium. I was wanting to know if there was anyone out there who witnessed it, because my son was so shocked and upset by the event he didn't get the license plate number. If you did, would you please it to the Cape Girardeau Police Department?
MEDICARE PEOPLE and Social Security recipients: Have you read about the Republicans health plan? I assume you know that most of the hospital administrators, who more than likely voted Republican in the last election, and the nursing home administrators are saying the Republican plan would eventually make the hospitals go broke. I think it's fairly obvious, and I think our comedian we have as speaker of the House is going around insulting the poor, the south side of Chicago and New York. Mr. Gingrich is a comedian, but there's only one thing wrong. Unlike 1994, no one's really laughing. This is serious business, and I certainly think we need to turn this election around and give the House and Senate back to the Democrats, who care for the poor and care for the elderly and keep our Medicare system just like it is. They make me laugh, these millionaires saying that Medicare is going to go bankrupt. That is a big Wall Street scare, and I don't think the people are going to bite this time.
