THE BOMB article in the April 7 Missourian stating that the information for making the bombs may have come from the Internet contains nothing more than pure speculation by Chief Howard Boyd. The fact is that many libraries and bookstores have such information readily available to anyone looking for it. The real problem is why are kids making bombs, and where is their supervision? Can you blame kids for getting into mischief if nobody pays them any attention or guidance?...

Rush and hot rolls

THIS IS in regards to the person who claims to be ashamed of Rush Limbaugh and ashamed that he's from Cape Girardeau. A friend of mine went to California. He met a friend out there who wanted to know two things about Southeast Missouri. One was the place where they throw the hot rolls and the other thing was the home of Rush Limbaugh. If it wasn't for Rush, Cape wouldn't be expanding like it has.

President will veto

REGARDING Newt Gingrich and starving children. We know nobody's going to starve. We've got a president who will veto any of the Republican's harsh laws that they're trying to pass. Maybe the House will pass them, but they won't make it through the Senate. We have a liberal Democratic president, thank God, who's going to veto them.

WE HAVE a good smart man in the White House. He's a caring man, and I'm thankful for that. We need Bill Clinton for a second term. Listen to what the Republicans call the middle class in this country: $200,000 a year. Can you believe that? I hope you cannot. Clinton has done more for this country than Nixon, Reagan, Bush and Ford all put together. Young people with children out there, don't you think you should have national health care? Your president wants that for you. If you love your children, you want the best for them.

Cleanup near cemetery

IF CAPE Girardeau is truly interested in a cleanup week, why don't they send the police department down to the 600 N. Spanish Street block and check the horrible debris of used cars and trucks that have gathered up there directly below the Lorimier Cemetery.

Speaker on TV

THE SPEAKER of the House gave a State of the Union address Friday to the American public. We just have no leadership. We've got such a weak president. It's the first time in history that the speaker of the House gave this kind of address. And the Democrats went right along with it. I'm glad to have someone take control of the country.

For the birds

THE ONLY reason Gephardt does not agree with Gingrich is because Dick is a Democrat and Newt Gingrich is a Republican. They both have the ideals, but each one has to stick to his party and they have to fight. That's the way it appears to me. Big government is for the birds. Certainly not for human beings.

Campbell a loss

I REALLY hate to see John Campbell resign from the school board. I think he's really done an excellent job for the school board and the school and community. I think one has come out of all this: We have seen Larry Dew resign, which is a very positive step. It seems he probably had some responsibility for the slopping bookkeeping. It looks like Harold Hager would probably make a good appointment to take Campbell's place.

Views on Swan

I WANT to say that Kathy Swan is a honest, caring person. I've known her long time. She will always do what is right. She is educated, she knows the law, and she would have made a good school board president.

I WOULD like to recommend that Kathy Swan be impeached. It appears that Swan has been at the center of the controversy of last year's commencement problem and now has developed into being in the center of the controversy of the latest school issues. I commend school board member John Campbell for having the courage that he has had and Bob Fox and Steve Wright for stepping forward.

Eastlick's philosophy

EVERY MAN'S life is ruled by a philosophy, whether he's aware of it or not. He may not even know what a philosophy is, but his actions reveal it. Jay Eastlick shows he understands that reality in his excellent article on Saturday.

Lightener Cemetery

IF YOU live in the Scott City area and haven't been out to the Lightener Cemetery lately, it will be worth your time to go out there and drive through the grounds. The people who have friends and relatives there have not forgotten them. There are colorful headstones and flower arrangements all around the stones and all through the cemetery. The people who mow and take care of the grounds are very good. They're careful not to disturb the flower arrangements, and they do a great job keeping the grounds neat and clean. It's the most colorful and best kept cemetery I've ever seen.

Hager a good choice

I WOULD like to applaud the Missourian's editorial in Saturday's paper endorsing Harold Hager as a logical school board choice. Your editorial was right on target in every aspect. Both new board members have indicated their wish to see Hager appointed.

Out of touch

IT IS obvious that Dr. Pat Ruopp and Kathy Swan no longer reflect the best interests of the school district. They have placed their personal views above the public's. Their arrogant actions in regard to school finances and the extension of Dr. Clark's contract have caused deep concern among the voting public. As a ardent supporter of education in the area, I realize that any increased funding to build a new elementary school is impossible without board restructuring. What I would like to know is: 1. Can we recall Ruopp and Swan? 2. How many signatures do we need? 3. How does the recall petition need to be phrased? 4. Has a recall committee been formed? 5. If so, who do we call to become involved?

KATHY SWAN is a super-positive person to take all the negative criticism about her.

MORE POWER to you, Kathy Swan. We're behind you 100 percent.
