I'D LIKE to thank the people at Southeast Missouri Hospital. I was recently in the hospital for a stroke. Thank you to the nurses who took care of me, and thank you to my doctor, Dr. Lee, who found out my problem that I've had since birth but didn't know I had. I owe my life to all of them. Thank you very much for your kind help and your caring.
SINCE THE Republicans started, they opened Pandora's Box about impeach Hillary and all that hogwash. I would say you've got someone more aggressive. I wonder if she's running for president or her husband, Bob Dole. It's been all about her, center of attraction, to sell her husband. She makes Hillary look a Bess Truman. You think Hillary's active and all that. This Elizabeth Dole, she's exactly like Evita Peron in my opinion. I don't care if she was head of a cabinet post. She's not running for president. It's pretty bad he can't do it on his own, because he has the idea of a dried personality and his speeches are about 100 years old, something out of the past. They need her to pep him a little, it seems to me. At least Bill Clinton makes his own speeches. If we elect them two into office, I think we're going to have two presidents for one. Like I said, it's enough to make Hillary look like Bess Truman.
ARE ALL the district high school football practice fields air conditioned? They should be if they are not. Just think of the terrible heat on our football youth must have to conquer. Let's air condition the football fields too.
I JUST read Monsignor Gosche's Aug. 16 letter to the editor and was quite surprised. He says the fate of the seminary site is up to the public. I was really surprised he said "I never wanted or expected the Colonial Cape Girardeau Foundation to purchase the seminary site." And he goes on to say "The Vincentian community should be given a fair price for it's property." If you talk about a guilt trip on the people, I think the guilt trip should be on the Vincentians for wanting the last almighty dollar and knowing full well that when the property is sold for the highest dollar, the seminary will be destroyed. I think Gosche's and the Vincentians' attitudes are terrible.
PEOPLE ARE shocked that a teen-ager in Carbondale could shoot two other teen-agers in the head and kill them. I don't know why people should be shocked about this when we have a president who thinks it's all right to punch a hole in the back of a baby's head and suck its brains out. Personally, I would rather be shot in the head than die the way these babies are dying. I feel our young people learn by example and by the example of our leaders. The young people think if it's all right to kill a baby in this way, it's all right to shoot them. Our nation is really being judged. God is in control of nations. He's in control of appointing leaders, kings, presidents, and I feel that he will appoint our president to be re-elected to bring this country to judgment. We have already seen judgment of floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, volcanoes, hurricanes, almost any kind of thing you can mention. We are being judged, and we will continue to be judged. I feel that God will use this man that we have in office to bring this country to it's knees. I feel that all of us should get on our knees and look to God to try to bring peace to our land.
THERE IS a vacant lot next to our church. It has been reported many, many times that the weeds are over 6 feet tall. It has been turned into the city many, many times, and nothing is ever done about it.
ALL THE news people was very upset because the Republicans didn't have a fight at the convention. They were so hoping they could criticize the Republicans and make an issue of it. I heard Bob Dole's speech, and he spoke about Clinton but not at great length. It is good we people can think for ourselves. The news people are all Democrats, and they like to make the Republicans look bad.
WHEN BOB Dole stated that the root cause of crime is criminals, it drove home a point to me as to how much money we've wasted on the social engineering and our educational system. Thank you, Mr. Dole.
THIS CALL is in response to the caller who claimed there was a huge number of landowners for the lake at the July 30 meeting. Let's get serious. I was at the meeting on July 2 and the one on July 30. The majority of the landowners present at both meetings by a show of hands voted overwhelmingly no. The opponents may have appeared loud, rude and obnoxious but only because we are sick and tired of the falsehoods being perpetrated by the RCGA. This lake will not be a economic panacea for Bollinger County but will cost us in the long run.
I SEE that Missouri students ACT scores have risen the last four years in a row, and those scores are now above the national average. It could be that the teachers are doing something right and maybe Outcome Based Education works. Also, it was easy to find that story in the St. Louis paper. It was on the front page. KFVS gave it a big play on the 5 o'clock news. The Missourian put it on the back page.
I REALLY appreciate the comments in Speak Out about Emily Firebaugh and the right to murder babies. I thought the way they put that was very good, and I appreciate your comment.
WHEN ARE Bob Dole and the Republican Party going to tell the truth and accept responsibility for the failure of our government? Bill Clinton did not have the biggest tax increase. Ronald Reagan did. They also sabotaged health care for all Americans. They cut education spending. They fought against raising the minimum wage. The Republicans were in power both times the stock market crashed. They talk about compassion and doing the right thing. They try to preach morality. Maybe they should start with the basics like telling the truth and being honest.
