I WAS watching the baseball game, and I saw the U.S. Postal Service game summary. This is just a wild guess, but I'm going to think that the Postal Service had to pay to have that game summary up there. You know, like a sponsor. If the Postal Service is so broke, why are they sponsoring baseball games?
CONTRARY TO what some of the people in Speak Out said about their support for Gov. Carnahan, I'll agree 100 percent with the Southeast Missourian's opinion on our taxes being the fault of the governor. As far as I'm concerned, these people evidently have been living in a different world, or else they don't pay taxes or so wealthy they don't even notice the tax bite. Gov. Carnahan has been the most expensive governor in my life, and I'm 55 years old. I think it's time for a change there.
I SEE that the courthouse is still up for grabs at Happy Hollow. Why don't they consider the seminary? It's at least a block. It's in the downtown area. And it's a historical situation. The courthouse would be beautiful there.
LOOKING FURTHER on this garbage about President Clinton not fighting in Vietnam, who really gives a hoot? I'm more concerned about job wages and the pathetic whining about how small businesses can't afford to pay their workers and the shameful population who are trying to hurt the elderly and the working poor. Praises to the highest for President Bill Clinton.
I, TOO, agree that the Marquette Hotel at the corner of Broadway and Fountain is quite an eyesore. I also live in the neighborhood and have seen small parts of debris fall off this dangerous building. When are the citizens of Cape Girardeau going to take care of this eyesore?
I GOT up Sunday morning, got my breakfast, turned on my TV to watch Robert Schuler for my morning worship. He wasn't there. Guess what was there? Golf, the British Open. That was more important than what I wanted to see. Wonder how God felt being shoved out so people could watch golf. It was not right. No wonder the world is coming to what it's doing now.
THIS IS about the Jackson School District bond issue. As a property owner and taxpayer in the Jackson School District, I have a suggestion for the school administration. Instead of spending millions of dollars on purchase and construction at Boehme Lane, why not add to the perfectly good school building at Gordonville on property already owned by the district? I'm sure the cost would be less considering that the property and building will be sold for little or nothing once the new facility is built. Come on, school administrators, let's be practical and economical. Ninety percent of my taxes already go to the school district. Let's not add to it.
SOME PEOPLE have the trouble with traffic on Belleridge Pike. I have a problem with dog traffic on Belleridge Pike. I don't own a dog, but I have inconsiderate neighbors who allow their dogs to do their business on my lawn and then leave it there. I am quite tired of picking up dog doo on my yard. It is disgusting, and these dog owners should take it with them if they leave it in someone else's yard.
ONLY IN America can a person who failed to represent his country in the Vietnam War come back years later and light the Olympic torch and represent our country in the eyes of the rest of the international community. What a joke.
