Appalled by judge's decision
I'M CALLING regarding Judge Syler's decision to keep a child molester out of prison. I'm disgusted and appalled, and I feel if he doesn't care anymore about our children than that, then he should step down and give someone else the position that does.
Cape has lost a great man
I JUST wanted to tell you that I thought the tribute given to Mr. Huckstep in the Missourian was beautiful. Cape Girardeau has suffered a great loss by his death.
Language is too coarse
AFTER READING Heidi Nieland's column May 20, I'm very disappointed. Our children are being taught to read this paper. However, if this is the Missourian's quality, maybe we should reconsider. Ms. Nieland, ask yourself this, would you stand in front of any congregation, read your article and ask them to kiss it?
Park Street work taking too long
OKAY, I'VE had enough. I want to know how soon the city will finish paving Park Street. I can't park. My family can't park. It's already been six weeks. What is the holdup?
Please get rid of Jerry Springer
I'M CALLING in order to give my opinion to KBSI-TV. I really think your programming has gone downhill, especially late at night, by allowing Jerry Springer on network. I do not appreciate KBSI for making this show available for my teen-ager and our teen-agers in this area to watch. I wish you would upgrade your integrity and remove the "Jerry Springer Show" off of late night TV. Please do that for the sake of the integrity of Cape Girardeau.
Monster responsible for glitch
I DON'T want to sound like an alarmist, but there is a simple, one-word explanation for the satellite failure causing all those pagers and beepers to go on the blink: Godzilla.

Focus on meth, not cigarettes
I'M A teen-ager, and all of my life I've been hearing about how Joe Camel is always getting kids to smoke. I don't think it's very true. That's not a problem in the United States right now. I think the problem right is methamphetamine. It's everywhere, especially in Missouri. If we get that out of our system, everything else would be gravy.
What about his own daughters?
THIS MESSAGE is for Judge Syler. I just wanted to know if his decision would have been different if it had been one of his daughters that the child molester molested?
Parents should do the spanking
THIS IS to the person who called in the comment entitled "School paddling would stop guns" in Speak Out. We don't need a teacher at school to take up a paddle and paddle butts. Instead, the parents of these kids need to start at home to straighten out their own kids before they get to school. It's up to the parents to keep the guns locked up so they can't get to them. That's how the shootings in grade schools would decrease. Try a little whacking at home. It might save a life later on.
Call station about offensive show
I'LL JUST get to the point. All those in favor of removing the "Jerry Springer Show" from KBSI Fox TV, please give them a call. I did. They listened to me. I believe that they are interested in keeping Cape Girardeau clean and keeping some morality in the area. I ask everyone that would like the "Jerry Springer Show" to be extracted from KBSI-TV to call and let them know.
Paddling idea is not a good one
THIS IS to the caller who's batty enough to believe paddling kids in school is going to keep them line. I think you've got the right idea. I think we should also revert to bread and water for convicted felons, chastity belts for all daughters below the age of 20, and wives who are found guilty of infidelity should have to wear a scarlet A on all of their clothing until the day they die. We're supposed to be in the 20th century here. I would have loved to see the look on the caller's face when the news report told about this teacher who got shot by a kid he paddled for eating glue. This caller said he had children. I fear for your children. I beg them not to follow their Neanderthal parents' footsteps later in life.
Proud to have voted for Clinton twice
WHEN RUSH Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich keep yelling "The American people want to know", they not talking about me and others who voted president in two times. We love our president. The way Rush judges our president is the way that God will judge him.
Park area turning into swamp
I WAS just wondering when Jackson is going to do something about the stagnant water that is standing between the ball diamonds at Brookside Park. Not only is this an eyesore, it is also a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects. Also I have seen many people slip and fall on the long wet grass around this mess. It is turning into a swamp.
