I WOULD just like to go ahead and put my two cents in about the human cockroaches and the people who don't want them in their trash. I felt the same way as the people who had their trash disturbed until a very nice young man came up and asked me if he could have something that we were throwing out. After he asked, I did not mind at all. So think about it. Why don't you go ask before you just take something that's not yours?...

Be polite and ask for my trash

I WOULD just like to go ahead and put my two cents in about the human cockroaches and the people who don't want them in their trash. I felt the same way as the people who had their trash disturbed until a very nice young man came up and asked me if he could have something that we were throwing out. After he asked, I did not mind at all. So think about it. Why don't you go ask before you just take something that's not yours?

God has his own plan for Jerusalem

CLINTON SHOWS his ignorance of God's word and prophecy concerning Israel by always pressing Israel to give up more land to Arafat. He said in one of his speeches, "If God was here on earth, I doubt he could take care of the problem between Israel and Arafat." How dumb and ridiculous. God's plan is in the Bible. Arafat will never own Jerusalem. The U.N. will never give Jerusalem away regardless of how hard they try. Clinton cannot give Jerusalem away, for God has his own plans, and it will be when Jesus will establish his throne in Jerusalem and rule forever.

Spend some money on potholes

IT WOULD sure be appreciated if the city would fix the intersection of Broadway and North Main Street and also raise the manhole at Mill Street and North Main Street. They overlaid this with blacktop, and the manhole is down below the pavement. One of these days there's going to be a wreck involving vehicles trying to dodge this hole. There are several chug holes in the streets in Cape. It would be appreciated if they would fill them up with blacktop or something. Broadway and Spanish is so rough it almost throws you out of your seat when you go by there. If the city has $500,000 to tear down a building, they can surely fix the streets here in town.

Courageous words on homosexuality

HOMOSEXUALS ARE trying to compare their plight with the plights of the black man and black people. Homosexuality is a decision, not a race. Those were the words of a black man by the name of Reggie White. He's a minister and also a professional football player with the Green Bay Packers. The day after he made that speech to the Wisconsin Legislature, the cultural elites turned their guns on him, which they do anybody who is out of line with the politically correct when it comes to homosexuality. He was attacked from all kinds of angles. Endorsements withheld. Criticism from all kinds of people. But he's right. Homosexuality is immoral and unnatural. It is not merely an alternative lifestyle. He courageously said, "I'm not going to live the life where I'm trying to please everybody. I don't need any more money. I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing. I like people to think good of me, but I'm not going to sell out." I think he's a commendable young man and commend these words to you and the philosophy behind them. Mud comes back on the slinger

I THINK Dan Burton, the Republican mouthpiece, reminds me of the old story about the skunk that always sprayed into the wind and most of the stuff came back on it. He sure has made a patootie out of himself. Trying to take stuff out of context and then trying to pull that garbage, he should be jail. When the Congress changes, he will get his.

Thanks for assistance at accident

I WOULD like to say thanks and God bless each one who stopped to give assistance at our accident on I-55 April 24 between Cape and Jackson in the blue Buick Park Avenue.

Enforce the driving laws too

THE CHIEF of police always wants to enforce the laws in the town. Well, he needs to enforce the laws for tailgating and for running stoplights. I was sitting there with my husband, and we saw somebody run a stoplight and the police did nothing. My daughter was driving down Broadway, and the woman behind us had the nerve to honk her horn when my daughter was doing the speed limit. She was in such a big hurry, she passed us to get to the stoplight to be able to turn. I think that needs to be enforced too. I think that if the police chief is going to be so hard on criminals and so hard on enforcing the laws, then he needs to enforce all the laws.

Some people want the Spice Channel

IN RESPONSE to the reader who called in about TCI offering the Spice Channel. First, I don't think TCI needs the City Council's permission to put the Spice Channel on the air. Second, the Spice Channel is not offering X-rated programs. The Spice Channel is offering what is referred to as soft porn, and they are showing no more and no less than HBO, Cinemax or Showtime show on R-rated movies. Third, if the viewer doesn't want to watch the Spice Channel, he doesn't have to spend the $6.95 to watch it. Fourth, this is America. It's a democracy. Majority rules. If those of us who want to watch the Spice Channel are in the majority and he's a minority, all he has to do is turn his darn television off. We do not live in a theocracy.

What about tirades against other ills?

RICK BAHN'S tirade against state Sen. Peter Kinder is representative of a group of anti-smoking zealots unable to think any farther ahead than the end of their noses. The pending tobacco legislation is nothing more than a money grab, and people like Mr. Bahn are swallowing it hook, line and sinker. Does Mr. Bahn know that artery-clogging fat kills more people than tobacco and that billions of Medicare and Medicaid dollars are spent annually to treat people who ingested these greasy foods over the years? So, Mr. Bahn, why aren't you rambling against Ronald McDonald? If we use your line of thinking, Ronald McDonald is poisoning children's minds and encouraging them to eat products that can eventually kill them. In fact, Ronald McDonald is as evil as Joe Camel. Mr. Bahn, who's obviously a non-smoker, wouldn't have to pay one red cent if tobacco legislation is passed, but I wonder what he would think if he had to pay $15 a pound for New York strip steak or $10 for a Big Mac with about two-thirds of the money going to the government. While we're at it, automobiles kill thousands of people yearly, so let's just triple the price of cars. I'm sure a patriotic American wouldn't mind paying $30,000 for a $15,000 car. Remember, the Democrats are desperate for tax money that they can give away in exchange for votes. It would be political suicide for the Democrats to advocate general tax increases, and this tobacco issue is no more than a means of giving them money through the back door.
