I am calling about the person who said he was picking up trash from his yard near a convenience store. He should be over here in the 400 block of Benton Street. The neighbors have trash all over. They dump it on the sidewalk and on the curb. It gets out in the street. All of the rest of the street is nice and clean. All of us keep it up, but not them. We have a choice: either clean it up or our house looks like theirs. So join the rest of us. Just keep picking it up and hope someday they will decide to clean up their mess themselves. Not much luck in that, is there?
I hear politicians and other people discussing older people and the cost of medicine and such. They always talk about the choice of medicine versus food. What about the cost of medicine versus booze or cigarettes? They never mention that. Probably that is as big of a cause of people running short on money as food or medicine is. But they tend to ignore that. They want to talk about food versus medicine. That's ridiculous. Let's bring the whole thing into view if you want to talk about it, instead of picking out certain things.
A speak Out caller wanted to know how many accidents will have to happen at the intersection of Bloomfield Road and Mount Auburn Road before a stop light or four-way stop sign will be installed. I think the number is in the vicinity of 4,350. However the stop lights or signs will be installed forthwith if an accident involves a member of the establishment.
A big thanks to all those who are helping out with the Cub Scout camp this week. It is really working out for the young boys who are there. They get to do so many interesting things, and so many special people have dropped by to make the camp well worth going to, from police officers to show the children bike safety to the SEMO basketball coach. And the activities they have are so wonderful and teach the children new skills. Just a special thanks to all those who participate and help make the Cub Scout camp a truly millennial treat for these boys.
Does anyone know where I can get more copies of Professor Journet's letters? They are so full of fertilizer that when I put them on my plants in the garden, they really grow.
I've got something to get of my chest. I don't understand why gas station owners allow freeloaders to hang out at their places of businesses. I have passed up stations more than once because I can't get to their pumps because people just park there to visit or to go in and get a soda. These places have become nothing but hang outs.
Clinton is bound and determined to get a legacy out of this summit at Camp David from Israel and Palestine. He is using billion-dollar bribes and threats of force, no doubt. But Arafat and Barak are holding out each for their own advantage. Clinton is so used to having his way, there is no telling what lies he is promising. But they know they are dealing with a man who lies and cannot be trusted, so they might be weary of this wily Clinton who is trying to wheel and deal for his own personal benefit.
Mel Carnahan keeps talking about all the things he did. But one thing he did was probably the greatest in his term as governor. He got a huge tax increase that he promised he would let people vote on, but he decided not to do that. He went back on his word. How come he doesn't brag about that if that was such a great deal? It is kind of confusing. He doesn't seem to remember too well.
I see where Mr. Clinton and Mr. Gore want a patients bill of rights. Well, how about a bill of rights for an unborn child. This is someone who really needs protection from abortion clinics, knives, meat hooks and the people who don't care except for themselves and the inconvenience in their lives. Oh, I forgot these unborn children can't vote, and the abortion crowd can.
Jackson city officials, you should be ashamed of the archive building. It makes me angry every time I come pass the building. If I were the surrounding property owners, I would be even more angry. Shame on the powers that be. I can not believe that they would do that to the city of Jackson.
I would like to respond regarding the parking at the Fourth of July celebration at Jackson. Why don't they allow parking in the ballfield area, especially when grounds are dry? We realize the parks are precious, but how can you expect everyone to walk miles when temperatures are 95 and 100 degrees? If nothing else, have a shuttle. Other parks recuperate after fairs. Also, why don't you have bingo or something for those who don't like mud volleyball or antique car shows? There were only one or two crafts there. What is every body else to do down there? What would hold a crowd?
People don't realize, particularly around here, that the income-tax marriage penalty does not affect the average working man and woman at all. You have to be in a much higher bracket. Eliminating the penalty strictly aids the rich and the rich only. That proves one thing: These Republicans are strictly for the rich man. So next time election comes around you better think about that when you go to the polls. They are a rich man's party. They always have been, and they will always will be. They'll say they don't mean to be that way, but it just turns out that way, they can't help themselves.
I would like to make a comment on the double standard of the news media. Why is it OK to bash Christians, but it is not OK to bash Jews? Hillary Clinton supposedly said this one-line sentence 26 years ago. Well, I would like to bring you up to date. Just six years ago, when Waco happened, the news media asked Bill Clinton what he thought about Waco and he shook his finger and said that those people were nothing but a bunch of damn crazy Christians that had to be dealt with. Where is the reporting on that?
The angriest, most exhausted and sleep-deprived people on Earth are surely those who telephone numbers are similar to that of Speak Out.
Since I am a single human being, I did not know there was an income-tax marriage penalty. It is pretty stupid. When this country says the family is the most important unit, why tax people for getting married? Does that discourage them? Wouldn't that be an oxymoron? The person who thought this up didn't have enough oxygen in his brain, and the people who passed it are morons.
I have read Alan Journet's letters in a book before. It was called "Grimm's Fairy Tales."
