THANK YOU to the Southeast Missourian, KFVS-12 and the Show Me Center for providing Cape Girardeau the opportunity to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra. What a magnificent show. Please do whatever you have to do keep their word on returning on their next tour. This was the best show I have seen in Cape in many years. Thank you.
THE TRANS-SIBERIAN Orchestra concert was totally awesome. I would recommend that everyone go and see a performance if they can. Thanks, Show Me Center, for bringing the group here. Now see if you can get Mannheim Steamroller to come. That group is just as phenomenal and worth every cent it would cost.
THE ARTICLE on school annual performance reports reflects the leadership at the central office. Their direction to the building administrators is sorely lacking. Perhaps now the public will understand why the need for new leadership is imperative. We need new blood at the top. We definitely don't need to take a chance of bumping up an assistant superintendent to keep on with the status quo. Hire someone who will stay only three years and at the end of that time will have cleaned house and kept only the producers, whether it be custodians, technicians, librarians, teachers, principals or assistant superintendents.
I HAVE read several articles lately regarding the proposed pay plan for city employees. Most are happy to finally be getting a raise, except the police and firefighters. I know they have jobs that can be hazardous to their safety, but that is their choice. The latest article stated that the other employees could be replaced easily but the police and firefighters couldn't. It takes more than two departments to run this city. No one has had a raise in several years. The other departments have loyal veteran employees who are maxed out at their jobs but continue to stay on and work at the same pay. I have family members who work for the city, and we're happy that they are getting a raise. They all deserve it. Maybe the officers should count there blessings and consider all the city employees' loyalty, not just their own.
IT SEEMS like I remember hearing the debate back during the Vietnam War concerning the drinking age. There is a lot of difference between the young who go to war and the young who play. I must admit, age doesn't always determine maturity, but those who come back from war are never the same. It still doesn't excuse giving a free pass to those that chose to drink and end up killing themselves or others because they drink and drive.
IF A teenager at one of those underage parties gets behind the wheel and drives off, the parents who own the property or provide the beer should have charges filed against them just like a bartender who allows a grownup who leaves a bar drunk with his keys.
AFTER 18 years of service. I don't think going from $25,000 a year to $27,000 is that big a leap. They too will have 20 percent insurance premium increases and sewer rates going up.
CAPE GIRARDEAU and Jackson, pay attention to how our sister cities are handling the car and music noise problem. Why not cite and confiscate the property of all violators so that we do not have to listen to this thumping sound in our homes and businesses or as we wait at a stoplight. If people know they will be fined and equipment taken from their automobile, it will stop. We are being bombarded in our own homes with our windows vibrating and being awakened at all hours. Please help us.
