I would like to pay a compliment to the KFVS12 news team. They do an excellent job of bringing us the news everyday -- and also the weather team. I feel like they do an excellent job of bringing us the weather every morning. Keep up the good work. We really appreciate it.
I believe Jay Nixon has done an excellent job as governor of Missouri. He is always on top of things and his reputation speaks for itself. He doesn't need his good old buddies to write articles in the newspaper for him. Voters are smarter than that.
SO that you don't have to waste your time Thursday evening listening to President Obama's speech, here it is: We need more stimulus spending (even though it hasn't worked and the president admitted that the jobs weren't as "shovel ready" as he thought they would be); we need more taxes on the wealthy (anyone making enough to actually pay taxes); and if the Republicans don't go along, then they don't love America. That's it. Let's watch the game.
I read Gary Rust's comments on Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder in the Southeast Missourian, and I think he made some very good points. His point about a player who has a batting average of 0.300 not being simply cast aside is a good one, but I think for governor, we're talking about the most valuable player. I'm wondering if Peter Kinder would be the one that you would pick for that award.
CAN someone please tell me how an Indian, as a mascot, is offensive? Do white people gripe about the Celtics or the Vikings? Do animal rights activists gripe about fierce animal logos? The fact of the matter is that your offense would offend your ancestors. They were proud of who they were and their accomplishments in war. In fact, it reminds the rest of us how powerful the Indians were and that they should be respected. People need to stop getting offended over every little thing.
THE intersection of Broadway and Kingshighway does not have a left-hand turn lane to go to Burger King, and people will wait there and hold up traffic as long as they need to. It's ridiculous.
I attended the book signing event for Shirley Coleman recently at Kelly High School and was disappointed that no member of administration was there to help support Coleman and her work. That is just terrible that a school would not support a teacher who has put her heart and soul into her job there for so many years. There were only a couple of other teachers there as well. Those co-workers who did not attend should be ashamed of themselves for not supporting another co-worker. Coleman deserves the backing of the school and administration. I felt she did a wonderful job, and I am so glad I was there to receive a copy of her book. Way to go, Mrs. Coleman.
Teacher's clothing
TEACHERS should be allowed to wear nice slacks as long as no panty line is showing. This is 2011, it's not the 1950s and '60s. Comfort should be paramount for teaching. I would want my teacher happy for my children vs. uncomfortable and miserable.
Oversensitivity
I will never understand why some people wear "offensive" feelings on their shoulders. You look at them wrong and they are offended. Then they are offended by things that they have no invested interest in: the name of a high school sports team. Don't you think it is time to get a life and see why you offended so many by being offended all the time? Gee whiz, the eggshells people around you walk on offend me.
Second term
OBAMA may not be the best choice for president in 2012, but he sure beats the candidates on the Republican side, so far. The candidates currently in the race lack in many qualities necessary to be president. Get ready for Obama's second term, all you Southeast Missouri Republicans who are constantly blasting Obama in Speak Out.
Slow down
TO the person who almost hit a biker on Route W, hopefully you learned a valuable lesson. When you see bicycles on the road, move way over and slow down.
