If Trump thinks NAFTA is so bad, cancel it. Or shut up. NAFTA talk

If Trump thinks NAFTA is so bad, cancel it. Or shut up. Threatening Congress is such a wonderful sign of the failing checks and balances in the U.S. government and it is clear the elected officials who are supposed to be protecting the Constitution are not worried about it. The cost we will pay 10 years down the road for this daily folly will be enormous.

Lawn care

Why can't millennials take a little pride on simple tasks such as mowing the lawn? They can't even operate the mower correctly to blow the grass in the proper direction. Heaven forbid if trimming is performed. As the summer goes along they notice that their lawns are shabby so they hire professionals. One problem, the pros are also millennials. My lawn looks better than the pros. I admit that I take a lot longer. I don't have their fancy equipment and I'm slower since I am a baby boomer. I sound like the old guy that yells at the kids to get off the lawn. Well at least us old guys have a lawn worthy of yelling about.

Football town

It was just game two of the young season, but Jackson fans came out in droves as over 7,000 people watched the Indians play at the renovated Pit. This place is special. This place is a football town.

The Fed

I pay my taxes quarterly. Working on them today, I realized that I'm buying my 1977 Ford Fiesta every quarter. Thank you, Federal Reserve.

Sullivan

Joe Sullivan's column in which he got political was very disappointing. He revealed his pro-Trump bias in no uncertain terms. Joe always seemed to have more integrity than that. Frankly, I was surprised.

Coverage of football

Maybe 2,500 fans watched the SEMO vs Arkansas State football game, and there are five articles and a photo gallery on Semoball. Yet, more than 9,000 people were at the Pit in Jackson, and there's just one article written. I'm not a marketing major, but more fans would seem to equal more potential newspaper customers. Your marketing strategy would be like McDonalds promoting leftover apple slices instead of the Big Mac.

Jackson football

Jackson is winning their football games with a great defensive line. Others might get all the press, but those in the trenches are setting everyone else up for success.

Trump and the polls

The same geniuses conducting polling showing President Trump's approval rating in the mid 40s for an approval rating were predicting a Hillary Clinton Presidency. That turned out to be Fake News. We all know that Trump's approval rating is really in the 60s.

Great defense

No one can run or pass the ball against that Jackson Indian football defense. They're beasts!

Wonderful opening

It was a beautiful opening night at the Pit on Friday night. The renovated stadium, new turf, and new sound and video were simply amazing. There's nothing quite like a Friday night football game in Jackson. And nearly 10,000 people got to share in turning another page of Jackson football's 123-year history.

Numb

What will be the response to another shooting at a South Cape neighborhood gathering? A new park? A group march? A condemnation from neighborhood leaders? I hope the shooting victim recovers, but I've become numb to that part of town's problems and their lack of relevant solutions.

Fiction

*Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to seemingly familiar people or places is purely coincidental. That needs to be made very clear to those who might be watching season two of "Ozark" on Netflix since there are multiple references to and/or scenes of Cape Girardeau, casinos and steamy political corruption at the state level of government.
