God doesn't hate
IN A recent speech in Springfield, Mo., Alan Keyes claimed God hates those who favor Missouri's stem-cell initiative. As others have stated, I can't believe God hates former U.S. senator and Episcopal priest John Danforth.
THE REFERENCE to Ray McGovern as part of a "kook fringe" is pretty funny. I'm afraid the birdbrains of Limbaugh-land have hit the wall on this one. If McGovern is a kook fringe, then he's a kook fringe that prepared the daily national security briefs for four Republican presidents. Maybe people should listen to what he has to say.
OSAMA IS as dead as Elvis, meaning that he's not dead.
NEW INTELLIGENCE reports confirm that the war in Iraq caused, not deterred, the spread of terrorism. Head-in-the-sand voters will pay it no heed and return a healthy GOP majority in both houses.
I AM deeply ashamed that such a fine school as Notre Dame Regional High School allowed itself to be used by those distorting the facts and thus possibly denying life-saving cures to many. For a thousand years, misguided theological thinking has blocked important medical developments. It is sad that Notre Dame will now be associated with that unfortunate tradition.
NO SNACK foods at school? Every day when my children come home from school, they ask me if they can take their lunch tomorrow, because the school does not give them enough to eat. They can't eat a candy bar with their lunch or drink a soda because the state has decided that schools are better at making decisions for our children than parents are. Guess what? When the children come home, they're getting a candy bar and a soda. They are children. Why deprive them of enjoying their childhood? By the way, I have three children, and none is overweight. They play, watch TV, play video games, do homework, go to school and do all the other things that all children do. They are not getting out of control. They are healthy, wonderful, precious gifts from God. I guess Halloween treats this year will be broccoli soda and lettuce bars.
I'VE BEEN looking into Ray McGovern, who coming to Cape Girardeau Saturday. It's true that he worked right under three Republican presidents, but he also worked under Jimmy Carter. That's what they're not telling you. He's a socialist.
SO, IF schools have banned candy, then I guess they will have to find a different fund raiser. They can't not have their cake but sell it, too.
I WOULD like to say I appreciate the sidewalks being put in around the city. However, as much as I appreciate them and use them, I wonder if the money couldn't be better spend on ensuring that our storm-water system is improved. It seems lately that every time we have a rain the streets and creeks and houses are getting flooded. And it seems that the storms are becoming bigger and stronger. Is there a plan in place to ensure the storm water can be handled in the future?
THE NEW Wall of Fame murals are well-done, but I'm surprised by the colors.
