Going too far; Make it private; Closed courage; More spending

Going too far

THIS is outrageous. Are we going to start feeling worried or nervous about the unprecedented power that our federal governmental agencies are starting to exhibit? "The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid on Monday sent a notice to all companies that sell private Medicare coverage and stand-alone drug plans to seniors. Saying at least one insurer was misleading those customers about the proposed legislation [as if government is the only entity allowed to do such a thing], it told the companies 'to immediately discontinue all such mailings to beneficiaries and to remove any related materials directed to Medicare enrollees from your websites.'"

Make it private

THE government should not get into the health care business. In fact, we should get out of the military business as well and contract out the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, privatize Social Security and Medicare, abolish all state universities and community colleges, close down our police and contract out security in our cities. The government is lousy at conducting any business because it doesn't pay the millions in salaries and bonuses that private companies do.

Closed courage

CONGRATULATIONS to Bill O'Reilly for winning the Courage in Media award from a conservative values conference. His acceptance of the award and follow-up speech were closed to the media.

More spending

PRESIDENT Obama's administration has spent a relatively puny 2 percent of GDP to try (with some success) to pull us out of the recession. World War II was the greatest government spending stimulus program in U.S. history, some 40 percent of GDP. Come on, Mr. president. Put the government spending pedal to the metal. We're still languishing. If the GOP takes over, we will go under.
