Thanks, Ameren A BIG thank you goes to AmerenUE and its crews. Thanks for getting power restored. You never know how much you miss it till you are without it. We know you were short-handed after sending help down South, but you got us back on as soon as you could...

Thanks for wallet

I WOULD like to thank the public works department of Cape Girardeau and specifically the trash collector who found my wallet on the street and returned it to my home. I knew there were still trustworthily people out there. I'm glad you were the one who spotted it.

Too late?

MANY AMERICANS may have felt the economic woes afflicting our nation were pretty much confined to Wall Street. However, with the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, taxpayer bailout of AIG, precipitous drop in the stock market and who knows what else, catastrophic economic events seem to have filtered down from Wall Street to Main Street America. It is not comforting to hear the U.S. secretary of the treasury say we have to restructure our entire financial regulatory system at this late date. It may be too late.

Here's a reason

I TAKE my child to school for a couple of different reasons. One is that I can't leave my 7-year-old at home by himself to get off to school so I can arrive at work on time. It has nothing to do with being too good to ride the bus.

Spending at the fair

I WOULD say the SEMO District Fair attendance was better this year because we didn't have to pay to park. If the fair board would reduce the entry fee, I'm sure attendance would get even better. We spend so much at the fair already. It is hard to pay just to get in the gate.

Scott City tie-ups
