GOP future

WE'LL NEVER know but I'll bet Jon Rust is kicking himself in the behind for writing a gushing pice about Sarah Palin being the future of the GOP prior to her meltdown on the ABC interview. If she's the future of the Republican Party, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that the party is dead.

No difference

LET ME understand this presidential campaign as well as I can. The Republicans have controlled Congress for 12 of the last 14 years, during which time Sen. John McCain has been an active member of that body. The Republicans have also controlled the White House for the last eight years. And McCain has claimed proudly that he has voted 90 percent of the time with Bush-Cheney and his fellow Republicans. Now the McCain-Palin ticket is campaigning on a Republican platform that is the same as the one of 2000 and 2004. And McCain-Palin are trying to tell us that they are the voice of change. What are they planning to change? I watched Sarah Palin's interview on ABC, and she could not come up with a single difference.

No comparison

WHEN THE Democrats start comparing Jesus to Barack Obama, it's time to get worried. Jesus was the son of God and teacher of God's Word, not a community leader.

Pushing more food

WITH REGARD to the growing obesity problem: I stopped at a fast-food restaurant that encouraged customers to buy more food because it's cheaper. It's the same way everywhere you go. If you order something small, you're told, "Oh, no, this is a lot cheaper and bigger." I think they should stop doing that. No wonder the kids are getting heavy.

Spending money

REGARDING THE county commissioners buying a new pickup truck: We passed a sales tax to resurface our roads, I live on County Road 383. The county ran out of money, so now we're going to put off paving my road until next year. The weeds are higher than a pickup truck on some of the gravel roads. The county hasn't got the money to mow the weeds or finish the paving, but it has the money to buy a new truck for a commissioner. I'd like them to explain that.

Great Elvis show

I WANT to thank whoever arranged to have the Elvis Legends show at the SEMO District Fair. That was one great concert. I don't think anybody left unhappy. It was great.
