Growth potential
PERHAPS those opposing the new quarry should also consider the effect of new jobs being created and the additional revenue brought to the county. I believe that growth spurs more opportunities for other businesses.
Comparing parties
WHEN criticizing the Democratic Party, take a close look at how things were before under the Republican Party. Gas prices were higher. We have lost many good jobs due to the Republican Party's overseas trade deals. And for those who complain about President Obama's socialized health care, from what I've seen the majority of you are on Medicare or Medicaid.
Beck's stunt
A recent comment said Glenn Beck's recent self-serving publicity stunt was the largest gathering at the Lincoln Memorial in our nation's history. That honor would belong to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. If Beck truly wanted to restore honor and integrity to this country as he stated, he would apologize profusely for his behavior over the years.
Give him a chance
GIVE President Obama a break. When he took office, he jumped into a snake pit that he inherited from the past. He was handed a war, the loss of jobs and a sinking economy. The United States was in chaos. A local author writes a book saying our president is the worst president we have had. How can that be written when his term is not over? Rome wasn't built in a day. Say a prayer for our leaders of America.

Teaching to multiply
THE Jackson elementary schools have discontinued teaching multiplication tables and after first grade no longer have spelling words. I think parents should have more serious concerns about the new grading system. I know some teachers think it's important enough that they are teaching multiplication tables to their own children during the summer.
Price of gambling
I can't believe our city council and mayor have again fallen for the gambling money. If the city gets $3 million on 3 percent of the casino gross receipts, that means $97 million is lost gambling. Since studies show 75 percent of the gamblers live within 25 miles of the casino, then $72.75 million is being lost by local residents. That's a high price to pay.
Fair share
MY heart goes out to those who are forced to live on more than $200,000 a year and are being asked to pay their fair share in taxes, the same amount they paid during the Clinton administration.
Bring them home
WHEN I see the Afghanistan people burning our flag, I say it's time to bring our boys and girls home.
