Misleading columnist

HOW CAN anyone take anything David Limbaugh says seriously when he is obviously so inherently dishonest? He states that Republicans are "presumed" associated with business. He also states that Republicans are "perceived" to be friendly to business. As a member of the local chamber of commerce, it's quite obvious that 80 to 90 percent of my fellow chamber members are Republicans. I don't believe Limbaugh is stupid enough not to be aware of the Republican-business association. He is trying to intentionally mislead the readers.

Entitled to opinion

RHODA REEVES is entitled to her opinion as much as anyone else. At least she was brave enough to sign her name.

Small-town response

IT GIVES me a grin every time I read comments from Speak Out callers who've moved here from a big city and criticize Cape Girardeau. I too am from a big city and know that the good far outweighs the small stuff such as bad drivers. I'll take being on the road with someone who obeys the speed limit or is a little more cautious over being with big-city drivers any day. I love it here. But remember: We both have a choice of where we choose to live. Quit criticizing. Stop and smell the flowers and put on a happy face.

Use designated driver

MY HAT goes off to the local taxi company for not letting the local police intimidate them. I am talking about the drunks who complained about waiting too long for a taxi and had the police call the cab company for them. My advice to the drunks: Be responsible next time and get a designated driver.

Foreign drugs

WE GET our drugs from a pharmacy regulated by the Canadian government. I trust Canadian government agencies as much as our own. From Canada you can get some drugs from same manufacturers and save 30 to 70 percent. Call U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson and tell her you support getting drugs from outside the United States at affordable prices. You have no guarantee of drug integrity in the United States. Look at what happened in Kansas City by one of our own pharmacists.

Waiting for repairs

SOON CAPE Girardeau is going to ask its citizens to pass a tax increase of some kind because the city claims it is out of money. But I would like to notify the city that it will not get me to vote for any tax increase until it shows us some consideration up here in the northeast section of Cape. In the 700 and 800 block of Main Street, the sidewalks are busted up, the curbs are broken out, there are slabs of concrete in the street that you have to have seat belts to get through and the manhole is two inches below the street right on a curve at Mill and Main. But the city does nothing about it. There's been complaint after complaint on this, and the city refuses to do anything. So I will refuse to vote for any tax increase the city brings up.

Practicing your faith

WHAT MISERABLE, misguided souls who think it's shameful that people who are religious and show their love for God in their everyday life and business are making a profit off religion. Of course, this is the attitude of many today. They don't want rigid religious views in our government, schools, public institutions or the workplace. What's shameful is that many of these hypocrites sit in the church on Sunday and sing hallelujah to God, but when they leave, they leave their religious values and faith at the church. Somehow I don't think that's what God had in mind. You don't practice your faith just where you worship.

Different standards

I HAVE just read where Gov. Jeb Bush's daughter was jailed for illegally having prescription pills while in a drug treatment center. I've been listening to conservative talk radio all day and haven't heard a word of this. Yet conservatives continue to criticize Chelsea Clinton. So on the one hand, we have the president's niece illegally using drugs, and on the other hand we have Chelsea following the law to being unjustly criticized. Can you spell conservative hypocrisy?
