Thanks for purse
I WOULD like to sincerely thank the nice person who returned my lost change purse at Staples. I truly appreciate your honesty and kindness so very much.
Integrity factor
THE PUBLIC was lied to the last time there was a gas-tax increase. Who will believe them now when they say what they will do with the tax increase?
Liars, beware
WHEN YOU tell one lie, you've got to cover it up with another lie. And the more lies you cover, the bigger a liar you are. Think about this. Is this right? God says it's not. You're going to go to hell someday for lying.
Last class at old school
IN REFERENCE to Larry D. Swann's letter, he states he was a member of the last high school class in May 1952 to graduate from what most recently has been the Louis J. Schultz School. I beg his pardon. The class of May 1953 was the last one.
Government dependency
LET ME get this straight. A man and his friends go downtown, have too much to drink, call a cab and the cab runs late. So the man goes to a police officer and asks him to call the cab company to get the cab to run on time. Friends, Romans and countrymen, whenever we have to turn to police officers to get a private business to provide good service, we are doomed as a country. Whenever we look to the government to do everything for us and have no qualms about doing so, we're doomed. After all, Mussolini made the trains run on time.
Making adjustments
I'M A senior citizen on Medicare and Social Security and won't be affected by future problems with either. But with federal health spending soaring out of control, something must be done soon or future retirees will have neither available for them. There are only two options. Either taxes must more than double, which will not be accomplished by soaking the rich but only by making all Americans pay far more than they do now, or spending will have to be cut. It would be nice if liberal groups would at least acknowledge this reality instead of playing politics like Democrats always do whenever a Republican suggests simply slowing the rate of growth in health spending.
Defensive driving
THIS IS about the person from the big city who thinks we're poor drivers down here. Here's the answer. Move back to the big city. We go up to the big city and see people switching lanes at 70 mph in a 55-mph zone. They don't use their blinkers, they're very rude, and they don't obey the law. And you want to tell me they're better drivers than we are? Maybe the reason we have to drive so poorly is we have to get around all you people from the city who come down and think you know it all.
Water problems
I WAS calling about the awful taste and smell of our city water now. I realize they're working on new wells and a better system, but in the meantime the water is awful. It smells so bad I can hardly bring it up to my nose. When I put it in my mouth and swallow, the aftertaste is like real strong medicine. Surely they can do something about this.
Funding for racers
I WISH people would quit griping about the postage increase. The post office needs that money in order to provide a good, comfortable living for Lance Armstrong and the rest of the bike-racing team.
Inhumane treatment
HOW HUMANE is it to keep a pet tied up in a pen in your backyard day in and day out, hot or cold weather? Not only is it cruel to the pet, but the neighbors have to put up with the noise and the smell of the filth and mess. If one doesn't have the time, place or compassion for a pet, why put it through all this torture? Just how many of the same problems exist in the Cape Girardeau area if there are two in one block on my street? And who cares?
