I got a laugh out of a Speak Out comment that said tax the wealthy, don't blame President Obama for policies that he cannot make into law. And then it says it's Bush's fault, that he's the Republican president that got us into this financial mess. Are they saying that he was able to get us in this financial mess, but Obama does not have any responsibility because he cannot make the laws? It's either Congress' fault for doing it under both presidents or both presidents' fault. You can't blame the Republican but not the Democrat.
IN regards to the playground that they're trying to raise the money for, I do not mean any uncouth attitude about the Cunninghams doing that, but give it some thought. I lost a little angel and so have loads of other people. Why don't you name it the Memorial for the Angels Playground instead of putting a name on it?
I read in Star magazine where Brad Pitt, the actor, had left $500,000 to Joplin, Mo., and I have heard nothing about it in your paper or on TV. Looks to me like somebody that makes a donation that big, it should be reported on. Why not?
I notice Congress is trying to balance the budget. All they've got to do is call me. Aren't they supposed to drug test these people receiving food stamps? I can provide 60 names of people that have tried to sell me their food stamps 50 cents on the dollar so they can buy crack cocaine.
Look at the clothes you're wearing. You'll find that not one piece was made in the United States. Now that's where the jobs are going. Why don't they put a high tariff on it when they bring it in and give the tariff that they get to unemployment? Wouldn't that make sense?
IT looks as if the Cardinals never learned their lesson from last year and the trading of the good hitters for pitchers. When they have some players get into a slump, they are out of it. Time will tell. However, I may not be watching, as I figure it might be a waste of time.
THE tea party people are portrayed as extremist because they are not going along with the game in Washington. For too many years Republicans have spent a little too much tax money and Democrats have spent way too much tax money. Now we are out of money and deep in debt. The extremists are the only people who can save our country. We have to balance our spending with our income.
THE compromise agreement between Republicans and Democrats leading to a raising of the debt ceiling and avoiding a default on our national debt will have many consequences. One of them is, I hope, the exposure of the imbecility of the tea party Republicans, a renegade group within the GOP threatening to ruin any chance at recapturing the White House and getting control of both houses of Congress.
I have never read a more narcissistic rant than the Rod Jetton piece in Sunday's paper.
I had to laugh at a comment in Speak Out this week from a person who was talking about Fox News and they didn't like what they were doing and what the paper is doing. I think this person is very much a liberal. I'm an independent voter, and I like Fox News because it gives both sides; it gives a liberal person's view and it gives a conservative person's view. They sit there and argue all hour, but you hear both sides, which is much more than what you hear on other stations.
I read the first of three columns by Rod Jetton and Jeff Smith and really enjoyed them. I also thank you for directing me toward their websites. I will be a regular reader of their blogs. In truth, it inspired me to attempt to do the same thing, although my eloquence will certainly be lacking as opposed to theirs.
SPECIAL thanks to Sam Blackwell for his heartwarming, thoughtful and enlightening columns. We will miss your writing, Sam. Hopefully you will still write something from time to time. God be with you.
