Smith on Trump
Congressman Jason Smith is learning how to become a first rate politician with his careful choice of words. Did you notice how he said that the Republican Party platform is the most conservative in it's history? However, does that then mean he thinks Donald Trump will campaign for the specifics outlined in said platform? Of course not. Smith knows that Donald Trump is a maverick who will pay no attention to the principles outlined in the national party platform and will, in fact, be running in direct opposition to most of them. The faux outrage Smith and other area Republicans expressed over Ted Cruz's speech was disingenuous since Ted Cruz is much more in agreement with the party's platform than the demagogic nationalist, Donald Trump.
Mixed message
What in the world is going on? Trump's vice-presidential pick, Mike Pence, stated unequivocally that the U.S. would stand behind its allies. Donald Trump said as president he might abandon them. Wow!
Mob mentality
Wow! Break out the pitchforks and torches. Tuesday at the Republican National Convention looked like an old fashioned witch hunt. By Wednesday when the crowd turned on Ted Cruz it just looked like an ugly mob.
Slippery slope
I remember when abortions were legalized. Some pro-lifers warned that we were opening a "slippery slope." They said making it legal to kill unborn babies would de-value all human life. With all the killing going on lately, I think they were right.
Pot, supplement regs
A soulless Speak Out savant said marijuana should not be made legally available to Alzheimer's patients because it has been determined that it only may be of help. Apparently, this caller thinks those afflicted and their families should wait around for full federal government approval, a process likely taking years. Sadly, the comment opposing using marijuana to possibly help Alzheimer's was assuredly more motivated by political than health considerations. I wonder how the commentator feels about the completely unregulated herbal supplement industry? Thank you for allowing for the free exchange of ideas in the Speak Out forum.
