Thinking of homeless MAYBE THIS can be a wake-up call for people who don't think about the homeless. If it's not in their family, they don't think about them. My 46-year-old son shot himself two days before Christmas. He had been living in a homeless shelter for 1 1/2 years because he lost his job. He was bipolar. Mentally ill people are treated with all kinds of medication and shock treatments. My son couldn't take it any longer. People, wake up...

Thinking of homeless

MAYBE THIS can be a wake-up call for people who don't think about the homeless. If it's not in their family, they don't think about them. My 46-year-old son shot himself two days before Christmas. He had been living in a homeless shelter for 1 1/2 years because he lost his job. He was bipolar. Mentally ill people are treated with all kinds of medication and shock treatments. Casinos isn't the answer

BRINGING A casino to Cape Girardeau will not help tourism. The reason is simple. If you go to Memphis, which a lot of people are doing, there are other sites to see such as Elvis' home and the pyramid. Cape Girardeau does not have that. St. Louis has the arch, museums and the zoo. Saying a casino would help tourism in Cape Girardeau is nonsense. Cape Girardeau is a lovely city, and good things come to those who wait. An easy buck is not the solution for our city.

Depending on gambling

NOT EVERYBODY gambles, and it's a sad state of affairs when a city, county or state has to depend on gambling have money to run the government.

Made in America

I JUST got my economic stimulus check for $1,200. My wife and I have decided to spend this money on an American-made product. This product must be made here and assembled here. It's our small step in celebrating Independence Day on July 4.

Spreading the Word

THANK YOU to David Limbaugh for having two columns on Christian apologists. The Christian apologists he's talking about are not trying to conquer the world. They're trying to teach people to listen to the spread of the Gospel according to Jesus Christ. They're not trying to hurt anybody. They're trying to spread the good ministry.

Bidding up the price

BUYERS ARE bidding up the price of oil. That's where the increase in price comes from. I haven't heard of the Saudis or anybody else setting the price of oil. If somebody said, "I'll give you more than what it is worth," I would say, "I'll take it."

Good old leaders

IT'S TIME to stop attacking our county leadership. We need to recall that those good old boys have led our county for a long time, and we are respected in the state because of their leadership. Don't forget that those good old boys are elected by the people and have been elected several times.

Prepared for flooding

A BIG thank you to those in Thebes, Ill., who are smart enough that when the river comes rolling in, they need to be high up. I noticed the house on stilts. This shows wonderful thinking and how to be prepared.

Take responsibility

IT'S AFTER midnight. I know where my children are. Why is anyone so certain that it's children who are breaking into cars? Crackheads are the ones wandering through the city at night trying to come up with $20. What better way than to break into cars? Don't leave your money in your car. Don't leave anything in your car. If the crackheads look in it and don't see anything, they're not as likely to break in. We have to take responsibility for ourselves and use some common sense.

Preventing crime

I REMEMBER my dad jumping all over my sister because she had traveled out West and was on a beach and couldn't understand why people would break into her car for change she'd left in the car. My dad said if there's change in plain sight, your windows will get broken. Prevention goes a long way to prevent crime.
