I also want to take exception of the mayor saying young people are to blame for the litter problem in Cape Girardeau. If you mean broken beer bottles, yes, I'd chalk that up to mainly 20- and 30-somethings. But most of the paper litter I see, when I see it being tossed, is from older people. By that, I mean older than 30. What's up with that? And the cigarette butts are being tossed by everyone. It's a disgrace how much littering is taking place here.
CCBDD: Is not time to push for the removal of Dory Johnson from any involvement with the board. Is it not time for Commissioner Purcell to leave this matter alone and to abstain from any involvement with this board. A public apology for Bryan Noack is needed from Commissioner Jay Purcell. The removal of Bob Dale was foreseen way before now. So it's really no big surprise.
LET'S quit pretending that the emperor is wearing clothes. Mitt Romney is a Republican version of John Kerry.
THIS a response to recent Speak Out comments that complain about litter, Alzheimer's neighbors and loose dogs in Jackson. As my father used to say, "Quit jacking your jaw and do something." Go help that guy in the trailer court. Maybe he has no family. Pick up some litter. Probably would take less time to do that than it took you to run home and contact Speak Out. As for the dog running loose in Jackson, I saw her and stopped traffic so I could leash her up and call the Jackson Police Department. They sent a car right over, and I am sure she was taken to the Humane Society where I hope the owner retrieved her. She was someone's lost dog that needed help. Took five minutes out of my day. I go to the park every day to walk and I pick up litter. Don't have to. Not my trash. But it takes no time, and it makes me feel good doing it. So quit all your whining. Obama can't do everything for you.
WE should pass a law that all politicians be required to wear uniforms like NASCAR drivers so we can identify their sponsors.
AMERICAN foreign aid, also known as our tax dollars, has bought Egypt a very nice military for whomever takes control of Egypt. Egypt now has near 900 M1A1 main battle tanks, and believe it or not they also own the rights to build the M1A1 on Egyptian land. Egypt also owns 250 very nice F-16s, and this is just Egypt. This backdoor welfare for American companies we call "foreign aid" has to stop. Bring our troops home, all of them.
ACCORDING to NATO, without American involvement the Libya mission will not be possible. Are we to believe that a large group of nations can't fight a war in Libya? If this is true, you could conclude that America is the only country foolish enough to waste so much money on what we call defense. End the wars. Stop the foolishness. We are broke.
IT would be heartwarming to read that Missouri U.S. Senators Blunt and McCaskill engaged in bipartisan cooperation had not their yes vote been to perpetuate perhaps the most egregiously wasteful federal expenditure of all, the ethanol subsidy.
TO the person commenting on the gentlemen hanging on the porch with no shirts on, on the corner of West End Boulevard toward William Street: It's not against the law to have your shirt off. It's summer. Why don't you find something more important to worry about?
IS Mr. P. going to be kept in purgatory? Is Mr. L. going to be kept in limbo? With the fate of The Letter People in a highly reputable area school system now hanging in the balance and in the hands of a school board, the public deserves quick action on this matter and needs to know if their efforts to save them succeeded so that they get a (Miss) A or failed, thus getting a (Mr.) F. The summer is being ruined for thousands of people who deserve to know if The Letter People will be pulverized or preserved.
DOES anybody remember that crazy talking man with his pie charts that ran for president? If I remember correctly he also talked about this whooshing sound of American middle class jobs leaving the country due to free trade. I think his name was Ross Perot. Look him up, kids.
I realize that fresh water for a city on the river is probably relatively cheap but that is no excuse for the water leak in the middle of our street that has been running for months. Please fix it.
