Recently, Catholics from all over Southeast Missouri made a religious procession from St. Mary's Church to Old St. Vincent's. As we walked down the hill toward the river singing hymns, we could see some young men playing basketball in Indian Park. However, by the time we got there, they had stopped playing and were sitting quietly on the bench, and they waited for us to pass before resuming play. I wanted to thank them for this courteous action. It was greatly appreciated.
When President Bush was in office, gas prices fluctuated a lot. Prices would rise during peak travel and during other circumstances, but they always came back down. It was $1.85 when Bush left office. Of course, when it went up, the liberals were quick to "blame" President Bush because of his oil ties. Gas went up when Obama took office and has never come down. Guess that is because he wants us to pay more, as he said that we needed to have our prices more in line with the rest of the world. And no one is afraid of him, neither the oil companies nor the oil cartel. He is such a joke and a definite "non" commander in chief.
I would like to encourage the city to ban all outside burning within the city limits. The smoke is so obnoxious that you can't be outside because of it. All of the things that people are burning could be recycled or put in the trash. I hope the city council considers this.
I am the person who originally called in about people on foot at ATMs. In one instance, the person was on foot because they left their truck in the parking lot, which was 20 feet away from the ATM. They just cut across the traffic and got in line. The next time, it was dark and I almost hit the person on foot using the ATM. These are valid complaints, and it's a matter of safety and civilized behavior.
I agree about needing a summer theater at the River Campus. That place is one of the crown jewels of Southeast Missouri, and there's a lot of people who would support professional shows in the summer. The university has invested tens of millions of dollars on that beautiful facility. It's a shame to see it empty for a quarter of every year. It's time to invest in the year-round operation.
I've been highly critical of David Limbaugh's columns in the past. But, lo and behold, President Obama keeps trying to prove him right. I owe Limbaugh many apologies. The corruption of this president's administration is astounding.
I also have a neighbor who has placed a bird feeder close to our pool. What a pain, plus it's so unsanitary. Clean it up, sir.
I read in the paper where the city raised our trash pickup again. They just raised our water not too long ago. Do the people of Cape realize how much money the city is making off the casino we voted in? Why can't they put some of that back toward the people of the city? I think it's time to loosen up your pockets, City Hall.
