Playground delay

I'M curious as to why a children's playground was constructed on Main Street in the Red Star neighborhood, then a truck hauled mulch to go around the playground and dumped it in a big pile. The mulch has been there fenced off waiting for completion for quite some time. It would nice to have access to the playground before the season ends.

Filling space

PRESIDENT Obama's historical and evenhanded speech criticizing both Palestinians and Israelis was rendered unfair and unbalanced by columnist Charles Krauthammer because he is a conservative who has to fill space with critiques of President Obama even if completely untrue.

Pay as you go

I plead with the public to please get on board and support President Obama's fiscally responsible pay-as-you-go challenge to Congress. We cannot afford to do otherwise.

Tougher entry

IF you want to know how dangerous uncontrolled immigration is, ask an American Indian. I bet if they had it to do over it would be a lot more difficult for us to take their country away. The Mexicans are doing the same thing we did to the American Indian, and we are helping them do it. Wake up, America.

Insurance forecast

A nurse recently urged us to call federal legislators to encourage insurance companies to quit fighting with doctors over the legitimate need for medications and tests when it comes to patient care. Let your heart be not troubled. When it comes to health care, we're on the way toward putting the insurance companies out of business.

Real-life TV

IF television is a reflection of real life, why is there a disproportionate amount of sex and violence? There are good things in the world also, Why not show them?

Helping the homeless

MY oldest son was a bipolar mental patient. He was in and out of hospitals and group homes. He went to a homeless shelter for a year and a half. You can sleep at a homeless shelter, but you cannot spend the day. There are set hours. You don't eat there. All you do is sleep. This not too great a cost for people to love one another, is it? Maybe one day it will be your son or your granddaughter or grandson who will be homeless. It's awful for a mother to endure.

Things we need

REGARDING Jon Rust's column on the Opinion page Sunday: I agree with him on almost all his points. It is good that our senators and representative kept Larry Rice out of the federal building. However, there's no need to put down Debra Young or the local NAACP. We need two things. First, we need ideas for the use of the old federal building. Second, we need help for people who need it. We have hungry children. We have families living in cars. We have people without homes. We have people under bridges. We need to do something for them. We must help them.
